Apple shares (AAPL) fell 0.76% as the iPhone 18 Pro officially unveiled with multiple major upgrades. The A20 Pro chip brings faster graphics processing speeds, greater computing power and higher energy efficiency ratios. The iPhone 18 Pro is equipped with a 48-megapixel variable aperture camera, giving users greater control over shooting. On eSIM-only models, the iPhone 18 Pro Max can play video for up to 45 hours. In addition, Siri AI and iOS 27 introduce personal context awareness, smarter tools, and new application features.
Apple launches iPhone 18 Pro with A20 Pro performance
Apple has launched a new iPhone 18 Pro series, which is equipped with a new A20 Pro processor manufactured using two-nanometer technology. Compared with previous generation A19 Pro processors, the chip's memory bandwidth has increased by 50%. Apple also equipped the chip with six CPU cores and a redesigned seven-core graphics processor.
The new graphics system improves performance by up to 40% compared to the previous generation. At the same time, Apple added dual 16-core neural engines, totaling 32 cores, to cope with the heavier computing load. The architecture also supports computational photography, advanced processing, games and other functions that are extremely demanding on smartphones.
Apple has redesigned its cooling system to support higher performance over long periods of use. The larger steam chamber provides three times more surface area than the previous iPhone 17 Pro design. As a result, the company says the new system can provide sustained performance improvements of up to 40%.
iPhone 18 Pro adds a variable aperture camera and longer battery life
Both Pro models are equipped with a new 48-megapixel fusion main camera, which uses variable aperture technology. Six adjustable aperture blades allow the camera to more accurately control depth of field, light and image details. Users can also manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, white balance and exposure settings in the Camera app.
The camera system also introduces upgraded photography controls and improved low-light performance. In addition, users can apply movie effects after recording video at 60 frames per second. Apple has also added 4K Dolby Vision recording support for time-lapse video and improved audio processing.
The battery performance of the two devices has also undergone a major upgrade. On eSIM-only models, the iPhone 18 Pro can play video for up to 36 hours. Under similar conditions, the video playback time of the iPhone 18 Pro Max has been extended to 45 hours.
Siri AI and iOS 27 extend Apple's software layout
Apple will launch iOS 27 and the latest version of Siri AI along with the two Pro models. The system is able to leverage personal context from messages, emails, photos and screen content when processing user requests. Apple designed the software to allow many processing tasks to be performed directly on the device, while supporting cloud-based processing when needed.
The software also introduces new photo editing capabilities and expands tools in Apple's various apps. Safari has added a notification feature that tracks changes to selected web pages, including product availability and price fluctuations. At the same time, the redesigned Smart Island can simultaneously display three real-time activities and continue to support Face ID.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro series will begin on September 12, and general release will begin on September 18. Apple will offer black, silver, glacier colors and a newly launched burgundy look. The release expands Apple's lineup of high-end smartphones and marks a further deepening of the company's performance, photography, battery efficiency and smart software.
