One intuitive explanation is that traders are faced with two events that may have a significant impact on the market in a short period of time, and some investors choose to reduce their positions to avoid uncertainty about the outcome rather than make bets.
CLARITY Act vote makes crypto traders nervous
The first major event occurred today. The U.S. Senate plans to hold a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act. The legislation aims to establish a clearer regulatory framework for digital assets and a clear division of responsibilities among various regulatory agencies in the United States.
What is important is that today's vote is not the final passage of the CLARITY Act, but a "closure" vote on advancing the legislation. The measure needs 60 votes to move to the next stage, which means it must have bipartisan support.
Forecasting that the market reflects a considerable degree of skepticism about the prospects of the legislation, adding another layer of uncertainty. Although the text was revised at the last minute, the bill is still divided over ethics provisions, stablecoin rules and other regulatory issues.
For crypto investors, failure to advance the legislation could be seen as a negative signal, as it means a potential path to clearer U.S. digital asset rules will be delayed.
The Federal Reserve may pose greater challenges
Immediately following is Wednesday. The Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision on September 16 at 2 p.m. EST. Current market expectations strongly point to another rate hike.
