Gate allows users to consume cryptocurrency using Visa in more than 40 markets

Gate has reached a cooperation with Visa to launch cryptocurrency-linked payment cards in more than 40 countries and regions around the world. When a user uses the card to spend, the digital assets they hold will be automatically converted into fiat currency.

Seamless connection between crypto assets and real consumption

Gate announced on October 8 that this card connected to the Visa network will connect the balance held by users in Gate accounts to the Visa payment network. Eligible users can make payments at any online or offline merchant that accepts Visa cards. Users can apply for and manage this new card directly through the Gate app.

Although the announcement does not provide a complete public list of the more than 40 supported markets, Gate stated that country-specific availability, qualification requirements, supported assets and other service conditions depend on relevant product pages and local regulatory restrictions.

Automatic conversion mechanism: Merchants do not need to process cryptographic assets

When users make purchases, Gate indicates that the relevant digital assets will be automatically converted into fiat at the point of sale. This means merchants receive payments through a standard card system rather than accepting cryptocurrency directly. Visa describes the same process in encrypted associated cards within its network. Its research points out that customers can use the balance of cryptoassets or stablecoin to fund purchases, while conversion to local fiat occurs during the checkout process. Merchants receive standard Visa payments and do not need to process digital assets themselves.

This Visa card cooperation is an important part of Gate Money's service. Gate announced the launch of the Gate Money service by Dr. Han at the TOKEN2049 conference on October 7, and announced the Visa card cooperation plan the next day. The service integrates cryptocurrency, fiat currencies, stocks, ETFs, gold, banking services and payment functions into the Gate application. Users can activate Gate Money after updating to version 8.39.0.

The platform aims to combine asset management and payment functions into a single account. Eligible users can hold multiple fiat currencies, make bank transfers, deposit cryptocurrency, and transfer funds between exchange accounts and payment accounts. In addition, users can also apply for e-banking accounts in their own name directly in Gate Money. Gate said the service can link bank accounts with digital assets and traditional investments within the app, allowing users to receive funds, exchange currencies and make payments without opening a separate product module.

Gate pointed out in its October 7 product announcement that cards can be used for online and offline consumption, and in some countries, payment options also include ATM cash withdrawal and local QR code payment. Specific functions vary by region.

Visa encryption card market grows rapidly

Gate joins a Visa card market that is expanding rapidly in 2026. Visa said on September 8 that during its fiscal second quarter, more than 160 stablecoin-linked card projects were in operation around the world. Total payments for these projects increased by nearly 200% year-on-year.
