Bitcoin's recovery follows Trump's statement on October 8 that he made clear Washington would not launch a new military attack on Iran before the U.S. midterm elections. Trump wrote on Truth Social: "We will not attack Iran at any time before the U.S. midterm elections on November 3."

The president described discussions with Iranian officials as "fruitful" but also stressed that the U.S. blockade would remain in place. His comments provided a degree of breathing room after earlier reports of a possible escalation of military conflict rattled financial markets.

Prior to this announcement, Bitcoin struggled to maintain support above $82,000 due to geopolitical concerns among traders about renewed. Prices rebounded to around $81,000 after briefly touching $80,300 on Thursday, and rose further above the $82,000 mark on Friday.

Following Trump 's statement on Iran, crude oil prices also fell. Previously, reports that the Pentagon was preparing to restart operations against Iran had pushed up oil futures prices and put pressure on risky assets. Before the president's speech, WTI crude oil futures climbed to around $93.20 before falling back. On Friday, prices eased to around $90.40, and Brent crude fell to about $102.91 as concerns about an immediate supply disruption eased.

Bitcoin's recovery has been accompanied by a rebound in major cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum, XRP and Solana. However, this trend did not erase the losses recorded earlier in the week.

ETF outflows and profit-taking pressures

During the recent market downturn, institutional demand remained weak, and the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF once again recorded net redemption. Data provided by SoSoValue for October 8 showed that approximately US$244 million flowed out of spot Bitcoin ETFs, and Franklin templeton's Franklin Bitcoin ETF (EZBC) was reportedly the only fund to record a net inflow.

The redemption followed a large outflow of $484.9 million on October 7, the largest single-day net redemption since June. BlackRock's IBIT accounted for $207.7 million in losses the previous day, followed by redemptions from Fidelity and ARK21 Shares products.

Ethereum investment products are facing similar pressures. According to reports, the spot Ethereum ETF recorded a net redemption of US$72.54 million on October 8, leaving it at a loss for eight consecutive trading days.

Selling activity is not limited to ETF investors. Blockchain analytics firm Sanitation reported that Bitcoin holders achieved profits of approximately $1.03 billion, the highest amount recorded for the second day in 2026. The figure is close to this year's peak of $1.04 billion and comes after Bitcoin's recent breakthrough of $87,000.

Sanitation measures the profits achieved by comparing the value of a coin when it was moved on the chain to its value when it was moved the previous time. The company pointed out that higher profit-taking is usually accompanied by a cooling period in the market, although this reading does not establish a subsequent long-term decline.

Bitcoin approached US$87,250 in September after U.S. employment data fell short of expectations, but the rebound quickly reversed. The cryptocurrency fell below $84,000, briefly recovered to around $87,000, before encountering new selling, and then falling to around $82,000.

The decline in Bitcoin ETF buying has raised concerns among Bitfinex analysts, who reported that weekly net inflows fell to $241.1 million from $2.39 billion for the week ended October 2.

Analysts warn that Bitcoin may decline further if it falls below US$82,500.

Despite Friday's rebound, cryptocurrency analysts continue to view US$82,500 as a key price to determine Bitcoin's next move.

Cryptocurrency analyst Rekt Capital said that Bitcoin has fallen below the lower boundary of the previous trading range of US$82,500 - 86,700 after failing to recover the upper edge of the previous trading range. The analyst believes a weekly close above about $82,500 will help maintain the previous trading range as support. If the closing price falls below that level, Bitcoin may be exposed to further selling risks and a possible re-testing of the same price from below.

In another analysis, Rekt Capital pointed out that $82,500 could determine whether cryptocurrencies form new trading structures within their larger $60,000 - 80,000 range.

At the same time, cryptocurrency analyst Colin Talks Crypto pointed to the "double-top" pattern that Bitcoin has formed after repeated and failed attempts to maintain a recovery near $87,000. "This is a local top pattern followed by a downward breakthrough," the analyst wrote. Colin warned that the formation of this pattern does not mean Bitcoin must fall to new cyclical lows. Instead, the pattern may signal a period of adjustment during which a higher low is formed before an attempt at recovery is made.

Technical analysis of Bitcoin price: Can we recover US$84,281?

Bitcoin's daily technical indicators still show limited buying power despite a rebound from Thursday's lows. According to the daily chart provided, BTC traded around $82,402 after reaching an intraday high of $82,536. Prices remain below US$84,281 on the middle rail of the Bollinger Band, while US$81,410 on the lower rail represents recent technical support.

If it continues to exceed US$84,281, Bitcoin will return above the midpoint of the indicator, and US$87,151 near the Upper Bollinger Band will become the next resistance area. Before reaching these levels, buyers will face resistance at $82,566 and $83,468. A daily close above the latter would open the way to $84,432, while a rejection could redirect attention back to recent lows.
