Amid Bitcoin turmoil, Wall Street giants are still optimistic about the prospects for 2028.

Bitcoin (BTC), born in 2009, is the world\'s first decentralized cryptocurrency. At first, no one cared about it, but its infinite potential attracted investors from all walks of life and eventually became one of the most important assets in the world. This cryptocurrency was worth only a few cents in the early days of its existence, and hit a record high of $126,080 on October 6, 2025. However, U.S. President Trump\'s tariff warning in October compounded the conflict between the United States and Iran, causing Bitcoin prices to plummet. Currently, its trading price has fallen 50% from its historical peak. But a Wall Street giant remains optimistic about cryptocurrencies and has issued bold predictions for 2028.

VanEck\'s Matthew Sigel expects Bitcoin to move higher in a year. VanEck is a global investment management company headquartered in New York with assets under management of US$199.1 billion as of March 31, 2026. Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset research at the company, was a guest on Scott Melker\'s podcast on July 5. Sigel told Melker that he still expected Bitcoin to \"move substantially higher\" in a year, but warned that the market may need a new catalyst to reignite enthusiasm. Instead of urging investors to buy heavily now, the research director recommends that clients gradually build Bitcoin positions in the coming months. \"I have always advised clients to establish a full position before October 2026.\" His caution reflects a number of unresolved risks, including uncertainty about crypto regulation ahead of the November 2026 U.S. midterm elections. \"There is no real discussion on the front pages of newspapers about what the blue wave means for the pro-growth agenda, let alone the encryption agenda,\" he said. Sigel also pointed out that until regulators provide clearer rules for digital assets, institutional investors remain reluctant to expand their investment beyond Bitcoin.

Sigel predicts that Bitcoin will exceed all-time highs by 2028

Despite these short-term uncertainties, Sigel remains extremely optimistic about Bitcoin\'s long-term prospects. He pointed out that sovereign country adoption continues to rise, with about 22 countries currently mining or holding Bitcoin, and this number is increasing every year. He said the market only needed a fundamentally positive catalyst to become more excited about the cryptocurrency, which could be the development of the U.S. Clarification Act or the establishment of strategic bitcoin reserves. Under this trend, Sigel expects Bitcoin to exceed its previous historical high before the first quarter of 2028. \"If Bitcoin fails to exceed its historical high before the first quarter of 2028, it will force us to re-examine its theory.\" Sigel\'s comments suggest that while investors are expected to deal with regulatory uncertainty and political risk before the next major rally, VanEck still believes Bitcoin\'s long-term fundamentals are intact. According to the data, as of the time of writing, the transaction price of Bitcoin was US$61693.
