Sony Bank\'s U.S. subsidiary receives conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency

Sony Bank, an online bank owned by Sony Financial Group, has received preliminary conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a national trust bank subsidiary in the United States.

The new entity, called Connectia Trust, is scheduled to be established this month with a registered capital of US$40 million. Connectia Trust will mainly focus on issuing dollar-backed stablecoins and managing related reserves, while also providing stablecoin custody services, specific transaction services for custodian customers, and entrusted asset management services.

The license application is aimed at conducting businesses such as issuing and operating stablecoins in the United States, rather than traditional banking businesses such as taking deposits, issuing loans or processing payments.

According to FS Vector\'s Evey Guo,\"This license will allow Sony to internalize the entire life cycle of stablecoins within the framework of a single federal regulatory agency without relying on third-party state trust licenses and scattered state currency transfer licenses.\"

Launch path and Sony\'s broad digital strategy

Sony Bank pointed out that the initial conditional approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency is part of the established review process of regulators, and there is no guarantee at this stage for business start-up or the issuance of stablecoins.

Before starting operations, Connectia Trust must meet certain regulatory conditions, including capital requirements and pre-opening inspection requirements. Final regulatory approval is not expected until 2027.

This initiative is a further step after the cooperation with Bastion Platforms in December 2025, and it is also a concrete landing step of this cooperation. Bastion is also applying for a national trust license from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency through a conversion application. Bastion will be responsible for the issuance, reserve management and custody of Sony\'s dollar stablecoins.

Sony Bank aims to support the business development of Sony Group companies in the United States from a financial level and contribute to the creator and fan community through services adapted to the digital age. The project aims to build a medium-to long-term foundation for the Group\'s digital asset business and is expected to have limited impact on consolidated results for the fiscal year ending March 2027.

The preliminary conditional approval comes at a time when financial institutions and digital asset companies are increasingly interested in national trust licenses, which are seen as a potential framework for regulated stablecoin issuance and related crypto activities.
