Senate vetoes the Digital Asset Market Clarification Act

On Tuesday, a major cryptocurrency regulation bill stalled in the U.S. Senate, triggering widespread selling pressure in digital asset markets and related stocks.

Unexpected: The CLARITY bill failed to pass the Senate procedural vote, one vote short of the 60 votes needed to advance. The setback put the Crypto Market Structure Bill on hold, but left open the possibility of another vote.

The proposed Digital Asset Market Clarity Act required a super majority of 60 votes to advance, but ultimately received only 49 votes in support. If passed, the bill would expand the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)'s jurisdiction over spot trading in cryptocurrencies and establish more transparent regulatory guidance for blockchain-based businesses across the United States.

Cryptocurrency-related stocks suffer sharp decline
