Circle launches Arc public chain: Using USDC to pay fees, institutional verifiers help the global financial ecosystem
Circle officially released Arc, a Layer 1 blockchain designed for financial markets, payment systems and automated economic activities. Arc has sub-second settlement capabilities and supports the global circulation of payments, transactions and tokenized assets. The release of its native token ARC marks an important technical milestone for Circle and lays the foundation for future proof-of-stake (PoS) transformation, privacy upgrades, and improved network throughput.
Institutional verifiers and efficient infrastructure
According to Circle official disclosure, Arc has connected more than 100 applications since its launch and attracted the participation of more than 100 institutional investors and ecosystem builders. It has a strong lineup of founding validators, including industry giants such as BlackRock, Mastercard, Visa, DTCC, ICE, MoneyGram, Standard Chartered Bank, SBI Group and Worldpay.
Arc uses USDC as the only payment method for transaction fees. This design eliminates the need for users to obtain volatile native tokens and lowers the threshold for use. In addition, the network provides sub-second settlement speeds, providing predictable execution efficiency for payment scenarios and institutional market operations. Circle Payments Network has been directly connected to Arc, providing a low-cost and near-instant cross-border transfer service.
In addition to verifier nodes, banks, exchanges, custodians, asset management companies, payment companies and wallet providers are all actively participating in the Arc ecosystem. In the DeFi space, Aave and Morpho support the loan market on Arc, while Uniswap, Aero and fomo provide the initial transaction infrastructure. In addition, Arc is also compatible with tokenized assets, including Circle's USYC, BlackRock's BUIDL, private equity credit instruments, and tokenized Bitcoin. Testnet processed more than 700 million transactions within one year of operation, and developers created more than 1,200 projects. Thanks to comprehensive support for Ethereum tools, developers can deploy existing Solidity smart contracts without large-scale refactoring.
Billion ARC Foundry and Technology Roadmap
Recently, Circle minted 10 billion ARC tokens as a technology milestone supporting potential security, governance and network effectiveness. However, Circle made it clear that this minting does not guarantee that ARC tokens will be immediately issued or traded to the public.
Arc's future roadmap covers a transition to a Proof-of-Stake model, broader privacy protection features, dedicated network sharping, and processing capabilities to exceed 100,000 transactions per second. Circle plans a possible proof-of-stake transformation in 2027, during which time USDC will continue to serve as the sole fee currency for the Arc network.
