Core Highlights

Marathon Digital Holdings has acquired a property of more than 1200 acres in Da County, Texas through an agreement with HIF USA LLC.

The property will provide up to 1 GW of grid capacity by October 2027 and expand to 2 GW by April 2028.

The company will work with Starwood Digital Ventures to transform the site into a digital infrastructure center that integrates cryptocurrency mining and high-performance computing.

This acquisition will increase MARA\'s total power capacity to approximately 4.8 GW.

MARA\'s share price surged more than 11% to approximately US$13.87 after the announcement, and has risen more than 54% so far in 2026.

Expand energy infrastructure

Marathon Digital Holdings (MARA) announced on Wednesday that it has reached an agreement with synthetic fuel producer HIF USA LLC to purchase its 1200-acre power supply site in Matagoda Da County, Texas. After the announcement, the company\'s shares rose more than 11%, trading close to $13.87.

MARA has signed a final agreement with HIF to acquire a strategic power supply site in Texas. Covering an area of more than 1200 acres, the site can be connected to an initial 1 GW of grid capacity by October 2027 and 2 GW by April 2028, subject to ERCOT approval.

The property, located approximately 90 miles southwest of Houston, has access to up to 1 GW of grid power by October 2027 and expansion of capacity to 2 GW by April 2028.

Marathon Digital plans to work with Starwood Digital Ventures to transform the site into a comprehensive digital infrastructure facility. The facility will accommodate both cryptocurrency mining and high-performance computing applications, and several potential high-performance computing customers have expressed interest.

Financial Performance and Market Position

According to the terms of the agreement, HIF USA will retain a minority stake in the project after the project has found and signed a lease. The company confirmed that its synthetic fuel program will move forward elsewhere.

Fred Thiel, CEO and Chairman of MARA, said: \"This transaction advances our strategy of acquiring strategic infrastructure assets that can support high-performance computing and Bitcoin workloads.\"

When construction is complete, the Texas facility is expected to more than double Marathon Digital\'s existing power capacity. Combined with the company\'s ongoing acquisition of the Long Ridge Energy & Power facility in Ohio, the total capacity of the MARA portfolio will be close to approximately 4.8 GW, putting it on par with regional utility providers in terms of power availability.

Marathon Digital has now committed to investing more than $1.2 billion in Texas infrastructure. The construction of the new park is planned to start in phases in 2026, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.

According to the company, the project will create thousands of construction jobs and long-term jobs in Matagoda Da County, a rural area on the Gulf Coast of Texas.

Driven by investor optimism about demand for artificial intelligence computing infrastructure, Marathon Digital\'s share price has risen more than 54% so far in 2026. The company\'s current market value is close to $4.6 billion.

In this context, the recent acquisition is part of Marathon Digital\'s broader strategic transformation: from a purely Bitcoin mining business to a diversified power infrastructure provider that can serve a variety of compute-intensive industries, from artificial intelligence companies to cryptocurrency operations.

Citizens recently began covering MARA, giving it a \"market outperform\" rating and setting a $24 price target, highlighting the company\'s expanding 2.2 GW high-performance computing infrastructure in its own and operating facilities.

Financial results for the first quarter of 2026 face challenges. Marathon Digital lost a net loss of $1.3 billion for the quarter, with earnings per share of-$3.31, below analysts \'expectations of-$1.41; revenue of $174.6 million also fell short of the consensus forecast of $181.86 million.

MARA\'s share price traded at approximately US$13.87 that day, with an intraday increase of more than 11%.
