Following
ATOM Aggressive announced that it has worked with multiple teams in Circle and the Cosmos ecosystem to migrate legacy USDC versions to the native distribution that Circle launched on Aggressive in May this year. This large-scale migration is expected to be completed in September.
Migration Scope and Goals
legacy versions involved include the USDC released by Noble and bridging variants that have been circulated between Cosmos chains. The migration aims to consolidate these versions into a single, native distribution standard directly supported by Circle, thereby eliminating the fragmentation problem that has long plagued the use of stablecoins for cross-chain applications.
How the native distribution mechanism works
The foundation for this transformation was laid on May 7, 2026, when the native USDC and Circle Cross-Chain Transport Protocol (CCTP) was launched on the Injective main network. CCTP allows USDC to be transferred natively between blockchains, meaning that tokens are destroyed on the source chain and minted on the target chain, rather than locked in a bridge contract. This is also the first time Circle has issued the token in a MultiVM environment.
This integration is designed to ensure that USDC on the Cosmos chain remains available after Noble announced its migration to a dedicated EVM Layer 1 network and placed its Cosmos SDK chain in maintenance mode. By assuming this role, Injective expects to absorb more than US$100 million in ecologically related stablecoin issuance.
Cosmos Hub Promise and Deployment
Four days after its launch, Cosmos Hub adopted the USDC released by Impressive as a reference standard for the ecosystem and promised to maintain this standard for at least four years. Skip:Go will set this USDC as the default unit of pricing. Cosmos Hub, Cosmos Labs and Skip Protocol confirmed that the USDC released by Injective will be routed via the Inter-blockchain Communication Protocol (IBC).
The migration will unfold gradually over the next few months, with dYdX taking the lead, and Cosmos Labs coordinating the deployment of other chains and applications in the ecosystem. At the same time, migration tools are also being prepared for Chain and DeFi platforms that previously used other USDC mobility providers. For users, the front-end experience is expected to remain largely unchanged.
In addition, part of the fees generated from the Aggressive USDC event will be used to programmatic repurchase of Cosmos Hub's native token ATOM.
