UK regulators will develop a tokenization roadmap based on industry feedback

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority releases feedback on its tokenization financial market plan, paving the way for a joint roadmap.

The UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced industry feedback on its tokenization financial market plan, laying the foundation for jointly launching a tokenization roadmap with the Bank of England later this year.

The regulator received a total of 123 responses from industry organizations, financial institutions and legal scholars. Most respondents believe that post-transaction processes-especially the flow of collateral between parties-are the main application scenario for tokenization technology.

The FCA and the Bank of England will use these feedback to develop a roadmap, which is expected to be released within this year, and clarify the target time points for the UK's work in wholesale tokenization.

In addition, based on suggestions from respondents, the FCA has launched a separate consultation process on "tokenized gold" to explore the potential of distributed ledger technology in the broader wholesale financial market.

The UK's move comes as European financial institutions seek to expand the use of tokenized securities. Last week, a coalition of institutions including Nasdaq, Stuttgart Stock Exchange and Securitize called on EU lawmakers to lift or significantly increase proposed asset access restrictions so that more assets can access the distributed ledger technology infrastructure.
