Cardano throughput hits new high

According to data tracked by @ chaininspect_app, on October 7, 2026, the @Cardano blockchain set a new record for transaction volume per second (TPS), reaching 329 TPS. This figure surpassed Cardano's previous all-time high of 304 TPS set at the end of 2024, marking that the network's main-network throughput has reached an unprecedented level.

This milestone has important symbolic significance for a network that has long been criticized for its base layer speed. Chainspect, an independent blockchain analytics platform that monitors real-time and peak TPS for more than 40 chains, is the primary source of reference for performance benchmarking by the broader Cardano community.

$ADA's scalable outlook

Data for 329TPS comes from the main network, but is still well below the throughput target set by Cardano for the near term. According to TradingKey's analysis, the network is working to advance the Ouroboros Leios upgrade, and simulations show that this may push the throughput of the base layer to between 300 and 1,000+ TPS, with a peak that could even reach 10,000 TPS. According to CoinMarketCap, as the first phase of the broader Dijkstra era, the target timeline for activating Ouroboros Linear Leios is the fourth quarter of 2026.

Whether a new TPS record is enough to accelerate development activities around $ADA remains an unsolved mystery. Although developer submissions on Chainspect rank Cardano as one of the most active blockchain ecosystems by development output, critics point to weak DEX liquidity and limited on-chain activity as continuing constraints on ecosystem growth.

The Hydra Layer-2 protocol remains a long-term solution to achieve burst throughput. In a controlled testing environment, Hydra showed numbers much higher, but these results reflected head channels rather than settled mainnet transactions.

The record of 329 TPS is an incremental improvement. For developers and investors concerned about $ADA, the more decisive question is whether the Leios mainnetwork deployment can proceed as planned and deliver on the leapfrog throughput improvements promised by the Cardano roadmap.
