Cryptocurrency investor Deus X Capital will officially liquidate...

Deus X Capital has ceased operations and plans to formally liquidate in January 2027.

Deus X Capital, a family office-backed cryptocurrency and fintech investment company, had US$1 billion in assets and available funds at the time of launch. It has currently ceased operations and plans to formally complete the liquidation process on January 31, 2027. The decision stems from its major investors pursuing their own independent development strategies.

Although the company has reported an annualized return on investment of 36.5% since its establishment in October 2023, it still chose to close. Chief Investment Officer Stuart Connolly will oversee the transition and it is expected that some portfolio companies will continue to operate with the support of existing stakeholders. Tim Grant, a former Galaxy Digital executive and CEO who led Deus X, has moved to AI infrastructure company TensorX. The reorganization is aimed at separating the Morton family's investment activities rather than announcing a complete exit from digital assets or financial technology.

Why are investors in Deus X Capital splitting their business?

The company's backers are dividing its business into two separate investment vehicles. Shane Morton is creating an entity called Darius to focus on artificial intelligence, while Owen and Jason Morton are creating an entity called 95 to focus on financial markets and fintech.

Tim Grant will lead TensorX, an AI infrastructure company backed by Darius Cubed Ventures. Previously, he served as head of Galaxy Digital's Europe, Middle East and Africa region and joined Deus X in 2023. The business split covers a wide range of investments in digital assets, venture capital, hedge funds, trading infrastructure and financial technology over the past three years. Deus X initially integrated existing family office investments with funding that could be used for new opportunities. However, its original $1 billion valuation was based on a combination of existing investments and deployable capital and does not necessarily represent cash available for immediate investment. Currently, the company has not disclosed its current asset status, the amount of capital allocated to various subsequent entities, or the specific terms for managing the transfer of positions in its portfolio.

Where will Deus X's crypto and fintech portfolio go?

Deus X has created an interconnected financial technology business group, and as the parent investment company disappears, the market has expressed concern about changes in its ownership structure, financing arrangements, and operating relationships. Its portfolio includes institutional liquidity provider Alpha Lab 40, digital asset lending business Cor Prime, and Deus X Markets. In January 2025, Deus X Markets launched its "Brokerage-as-a-Service" product under the leadership of former IG and Capital.com executive Tim Plummer.

Another portfolio company, Deus X Pay, has expanded its institutional payment infrastructure by offering virtual IBAN services in US dollars and euros, and subsequently announced that it has been registered as a Canadian Money Services Enterprise. In addition, Deus X incubated Solstice Labs in September 2024. Its Solana-based agreement subsequently launched USX stablecoins and YieldVault in September 2025, with a total lock-in value (TVL) of $160 million reported at launch.

Cor Prime received an initial equity investment in Deus X and committed up to $100 million in venture capital. It should be noted that this figure represents a financing commitment and does not prove that the amount has been fully disbursed or is still outstanding. As of now, the company has not yet clarified which portfolio businesses will be transferred to Darius or 95, which will retain the existing ownership structure, and whether any financing commitments will change.

Investor Revelation

The closure of a parent company does not mean the automatic termination of its portfolio company. For counterparties and users, continued access to financing, liquidity and operational services is more important than the dissolution itself.

Does the reported 36.5% return imply financial strength?

Deus X reported an annualized return of 36.5% since its inception, but did not disclose the underlying capital, methodology or independently audited supporting performance used to calculate this figure. As a result, the reported results do not establish the company's overall profitability, achieved investor allocation or current portfolio valuation. In addition, the closure itself does not constitute evidence of insolvency or investment loss.

Because the company is backed by family investors rather than simply operating as a traditional externally funded venture capital fund manager, even if the underlying investment performs well, its restructuring may reflect differences in investment priorities. For investors evaluating similar companies, distinguishing annualized performance, available liquidity, and realized returns is particularly important when their portfolio includes private companies, venture capital projects, and illiquid digital asset exposures.

The 36.5% return claimed should not be interpreted as audited fund performance or evidence of cash flow available for distribution. Portfolio valuation, realized earnings and financial terms for liquidation remain undisclosed. [TAG

Is AI becoming a more attractive destination for cryptocurrency investment capital?

The transition to TensorX provides a concrete case for capital flows to AI infrastructure. Grant's appointment is based on his existing relationship with the company: he became executive chairman of the company in May 2026, prior to the announcement in June 2026 that Darius Cubed Ventures had led an investment of € 8 million. In another Oct. 8 announcement, TensorX said it had reached $5 million in revenue, attracted more than 5,000 paying customers, and closed a $10 million seed round. The company did not specify the statistical cycle for revenue.

TensorX operates dedicated NVIDIA GPU infrastructure in Ireland and Finland, designed to meet the needs of enterprises that require private AI inference and European data residency. Its next investment challenge is to expand computing power without spending on hardware exceeding sustainable customer needs. The move also coincides with a tightening fundraising environment for cryptocurrency venture capital funds. Galaxy Research reported that in the second quarter of 2026, cryptocurrency startups attracted approximately US$5.7 billion out of 384 investments, while only five new cryptocurrency risk funds raised approximately US$3.9 billion. Galaxy pointed out that growing investor interest in AI, as well as competition from exchange-traded products (ETP) and digital asset Treasury, are factors affecting traditional cryptocurrency venture capital fundraising.

Despite this, the establishment of Entity 95 shows that the Morton family has not given up on the financial technology field. More far-reaching developments are the separation of AI infrastructure investment from the transaction and digital asset businesses previously managed under the same investment platform.

Investor Inspiration

TensorX has reported on customer numbers, revenue and financing, making its AI strategy more than just a proposed investment turn. Its profitability, infrastructure costs and the ability to expand recurring revenue will determine whether this investment direction produces lasting returns.
