The Bitcoin whale that has been sleeping for 16 years has reappeared

A batch of 100.02 bitcoins mined in July 2010 were transferred for the first time on Wednesday after about 16 years of silence. The bitcoins were worth approximately $8.3 million at the time of the transaction and were subsequently split into two new addresses: one holding 10 bitcoins and the other holding 90.02 bitcoins.

The transaction was confirmed in Block 970,379 with a handling fee of only approximately US$1.22. As of Thursday, there had been no changes to either of the two new funds receiving addresses.
