Tether invested US$20 million in Mercado Bitcoin to support payments, tokenization, lending and on-chain capital markets businesses.

Mercado Bitcoin serves 4.5 million users and has issued more than 2 billion reais in tokenized assets under regulatory permission

This funding will accelerate Mercado Bitcoin\'s expansion in Brazil while supporting its international growth and partnerships.

Tether has invested US$20 million in Mercado Bitcoin through a strategic financing round, expanding its influence in the Latin American digital asset market. The announcement confirmed that the funds will support Mercado Bitcoin\'s blockchain financial infrastructure construction in Brazil and international markets. According to Tether, as demand for tokenization and stablecoin payments continues to grow, the investment targets regulated on-chain financial services.

Mercado Bitcoin expands regulated financial services

Mercado Bitcoin said the new funding will strengthen multiple aspects of its business. The company plans to expand its payment infrastructure, tokenized investment products, lending services and on-chain capital markets.

Mercado Bitcoin was founded in 2013 and has grown from a cryptocurrency exchange to a broader financial services platform. Today, it provides trading infrastructure, stablecoin payments, banking services, cross-border transactions, and tokenized investment products.

According to Tether, Mercado Bitcoin currently has 4.5 million users. The company has also issued more than 2 billion reais (approximately US$388 million) in tokenized assets.

Its regulated business covers more than a dozen licenses in Brazil and Europe. These approvals include payment institution licenses issued by the Central Bank of Brazil, as well as brokerage, securitization, asset management and other qualifications.

Executives explain investment strategy

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said that Mercado Bitcoin has built a regulated chain financial platform that serves millions of users. He added that Brazil remains one of the important markets for the company\'s blockchain-based financial services.

Meanwhile, Roberto Dagnoni, Chairman and CEO of Mercado Bitcoin, said that blockchain finance has moved beyond the early adoption stage. According to Dagnoni, the latest financing will support the company\'s expansion in Brazil while advancing international growth plans.

Funding targets cross-market growth

The two companies said the financing will also support strategic partnerships and further international expansion. In addition, Mercado Bitcoin plans to increase lending capabilities while expanding tokenized investment products for retail and institutional customers.

According to Tether, the investment is in line with its strategy of supporting companies building regulated blockchain financial infrastructure. The company added that as tokenization and stablecoins expand in global markets, it will continue to focus on businesses that combine regulatory approval, technology and large-scale financial services.
