Heavy news about XLM holders has once again come from the United Nations, and the latest development

A United Nations agency has just given the Stellar Network a real mission. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Stellar Development Foundation have signed a new agreement to promote blockchain-based digital payments in their global operations.

Cryptocurrency analyst Steph Is Crypto (@Steph_iscrypto) shared the news on the X platform, which triggered a warm response from the community. After 16 months of research covering 17 countries, the agreement has now been piloted in Haiti, Syria, Kenya, Guatemala and the Gambia.

This timing added weight to the event. The announcement comes just weeks after DTCC listed Stellar as the first public blockchain in its multi-chain tokenization strategy in May. Wall Street\'s clearing houses and the United Nations development agency have committed to using the network at the same time period (2026), and Stellar\'s footprint is simultaneously expanding into very different corners of the world.

Significant:

The United Nations is promoting digital payments on Stellar.$ The XLM study covers 17 countries and has carried out 5 practical pilots in Haiti, Syria, Kenya, Guatemala and Gambia. Next step: Extend digital payments to more than 170 UNDP country offices. - STEPH IS CRYSTPTO (@Steph_iscrypto) July 7, 2026

Agreement Outcome

Aid workers in Syria run \"work-for-work\" projects through the Stellar network and record every payment on the chain. This change reduces distribution costs from about 10%, to just 2%. Haiti faces an even more severe test: a payment system designed for low connectivity will have to stay operational even when the entire cellular network goes down during testing. The system completed all payments with a success rate of 100%. UNDP has also built prototype systems in Colombia and Papua New Guinea in addition to five core pilots. Every dollar that flows through these systems leaves a visible, traceable record.

Community Reaction

As soon as the news came out, the community responded quickly. It was pointed out that the participation of the United Nations is a strong signal to XLM. A wallet provider on the Stellar network also celebrated, highlighting the partnership. One commentator said Stellar was moving the aid cause forward, while another emphasized that five countries were already operational and called Stellar an emerging financial pillar of such work.

Future Outlook

The next phase of UNDP focuses on building repeatable processes rather than a one-time pilot. The agency hopes that its more than 170 country offices will deploy blockchain payments in more projects in the future. Stellar continues to serve as a technology partner, with UNDP responsible for implementation. Lower costs and the ability to pay for normal operations in the event of infrastructure outages provide a strong basis for UNDP to expand. This move shows that blockchain payments are becoming core infrastructure. The real test lies in how to scale it out from the five pilot countries.
