Paradigm raised US$1.2 billion and expanded its investment footprint into AI, robotics and other fields.
Paradigm, a cryptocurrency venture capital firm, has successfully raised US$1.2 billion in funds and plans to invest in artificial intelligence, robotics, cryptocurrency and other cutting-edge technologies, its focus has gone beyond the field of digital assets.
Although cryptocurrencies remain the core of Paradigm\'s business, the San Francisco-based company said on Wednesday that its fourth phase of fund will continue its research-driven strategy and expand investment in artificial intelligence, autonomous hardware and other emerging technologies.
\"US$1.2 billion to invest in areas of steep exponential growth. Eight years ago, we had the support of people who believed in the frontiers of cryptocurrencies,\"Paradigm Managing Partner Alana Palmedo wrote on the X platform.\" Today, with the convergence of cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, space, deep technology, and energy, we are doubling our investment. Thank you to our partners.\"
Paradigm was founded in 2018 by Matt Huang and Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam and has now become one of the largest venture capital institutions in the cryptocurrency space. The company raised $2.5 billion in crypto funds in 2021 and again raised $850 million in early-stage blockchain funds in 2024.
\"Our approach has always been close to reality-conducting research, building and investing in founders, initially focusing on cryptocurrencies, and now extending into artificial intelligence, robotics and other cutting-edge areas,\" the company said in a statement.
Other investments disclosed by Paradigm include autonomous drone developer Zipline, space defense startup True Anomaly, and Nous Research, the AI company behind Hermes Agent.
In terms of cryptocurrencies, Paradigm\'s investments include decentralized exchange Hyperliquid, predictive market platform Kalshi, and the blockchain Tempo, which it co-founded with Stripe and focuses on stablecoins.
The company also introduced internal projects, including the Ethereum development tools Foundry and Reth, the AI proxy project Centaur, and the blockchain security benchmark EVMbench developed in partnership with OpenAI.
The news comes as cryptocurrency companies are building more infrastructure for AI agents to allow them to transfer funds and complete transactions online. Companies including Coinbase and Stripe have developed payment tools designed to allow AI agents to use wallets, stablecoins and other financial infrastructure to complete tasks with limited human participation.
\"Enough exponential growth is magic, and we are seeing more exponentially scale innovations running around the world than ever before,\" the company said.\"This era favors people who are open-minded, dare to abandon existing paradigms, and frequently recalculate new perspectives on reality.\" This is the mindset we share with the founders we support.\"
