BNB Chain has released a technology roadmap for the second half of 2026 with ambitious goals. After reducing BSC out-of-block intervals to 450 milliseconds and nearly doubling benchmark throughput to approximately 5200 TPS, the team is aiming to double again on the main network and set a more ambitious goal of a 10-fold increase in the long term.
The results in the first half of the year provide credible support for the roadmap. The four hard forks compressed the block exit time from 3 seconds to 0.45 seconds, and the final confirmation time from 7.5 seconds to 1.125 seconds. At the same time, the network bandwidth doubled to 133 million Gas per second. On October 5, 2025, the daily trading volume of BNB Chain reached a record high of 31 million transactions. Fees dropped by about 20 times, and verifier rewards were not affected; the total locked value increased by more than 40%, and transaction volume increased by 150% year-on-year. The team has achieved its first half goal, but the question is whether it can achieve more success in the second half.
The new L1 for AI and high-frequency trading
The heavier release is a new Layer 1 blockchain specifically designed for smart transactions. BNB Chain announced the development of this new chain, which aims to provide centralized exchange-level performance while retaining the transparency and self-custody characteristics of on-chain transactions. The new network plans to achieve pre-confirmations of less than 50 milliseconds to confirm transactions near instant, with a target throughput of more than 100,000 TPS, and a final confirmation time of less than 1 second. This Layer 1 is specifically designed to support autonomous AI agents that can execute transactions, manage investment portfolios, provide liquidity, conduct arbitrage operations, and interact between decentralized financial protocols.
This new chain will not replace the existing ecosystem, but will run in parallel with BNB Smart Chain, opBNB and Greenfield, connect through official native bridges, and continue to use BNB as a core asset of the ecosystem. The public test network is expected to be launched by the end of 2026, and the main network is scheduled to be released in early 2027.
In addition to the new Layer 1, the roadmap also includes continuous optimization of BNB Smart Chain, Reth-based execution client development, parallel execution extension support, AI-oriented developer tools, and post-quantum cryptography research. In the past 18 months, BNB Chain has always fulfilled its technical commitments on schedule. Faced with more arduous goals, whether it can maintain this pace will be the key in the coming year.
