XLM XLM trading volume soared 303% to US$873 million! What are the factors driving this surge?
Stellar\'s native cryptocurrency XLM has suddenly experienced a dramatic surge in trading volume in the past 24 hours. XLM\'s daily trading volume surged 303% to $873 million, according to CoinMarketCap. This increase is particularly remarkable because XLM prices actually fell over the same period, making the surge in trading volume particularly noteworthy in the eyes of investors and analysts.
Trend against the trend
While most major cryptocurrency trading activity is sluggish, XLM is moving in the opposite direction. In the past 24 hours, Bitcoin transaction volume has dropped by 20%, Ethereum has dropped by 15%, and Dogecoin has dropped by about 26%. In this context, Stellar\'s explosive trading surge has become an unusual development that has set it apart from broader market trends.
Stellar Coin is widely regarded as an open-source blockchain network specifically designed for cross-border payments and asset transfers. Although the root cause of this surge is not yet clear, some observers speculate that the surge in investor interest may be related to the launch of Stellar\'s third major agreement upgrade in 2026.

Protocol 27 is launched on the main network
The Stellarcoin development team has officially activated the Protocol 27 upgrade on the main website-called it \"Zipper\" in the community. The upgrade introduces a series of new features, including delegated authentication rights for dedicated accounts and smart contract credentials associated with addresses, setting new standards for network security and flexibility.
With delegated authentication rights, dedicated accounts can now transfer their transaction approval rights to other addresses, especially smart contract-based accounts. This upgrade adds two major new functions and a new type of certificate to the system. Importantly, existing contract and credential types remain valid, extending capabilities while ensuring backward compatibility.
Glossary: Delegated authentication authority allows an account to assign its transaction approval authority to another address in accordance with certain rules. Soroban is the smart contract platform of the Stellar Coin Network.
New certificate format reduces transaction size
The upgraded new certificate structure allows all signers and their associated signatures to be merged into a single authorization record for delegated rights. This eliminates the need to create separate authorization entries for each signer, reducing the size of each transaction and simplifying the simulation of network operations.
Protocol 27 also introduces Soroban address certificate associated with the address, using the same signature payload structure. These technological changes are expected to help simplify the management of complex account structures on Stellar Coin, allowing the network to expand its capabilities while maintaining greater efficiency.
Increased liquidity allows market participants to execute larger transactions with lower price influence, helping to create a healthier trading environment.
The sharp rise in trading volume marks a renewed interest and participation in the XLM market in the short term. High liquidity is particularly beneficial to investors, as it minimizes price fluctuations for large transactions, helps improve order execution conditions, and fosters a more resilient trading ecosystem.
