Zcash plans to launch Ironwood network upgrade on July 28

Zcash\'s Ironwood network upgrade will go online on July 28, which aims to resolve an \"unlimited\" vulnerability discovered in Orchard, a private blockchain master and private transaction pool in May this year. Ironwood announced in June that it would close the current Orchard pool, ban new activities in it, and set up a new private pool. Funds flowing out of Orchard must pass through an accounting checkpoint before entering Ironwood, which can generate evidence that counterfeit Zcash (ZEC) tokens were generated through the Orchard vulnerability.

\"Zcash\'s Ironwood mainnet activation height has been determined and marked! All major organizations have committed to activating NU6.3 at altitude of 3428143 (approximately 8 a.m. EST on July 28),\"Zcash core developer Sean Bowe said on Thursday.

Shielded Labs has proposed postponing Zcash\'s Ironwood upgrade, warning that ecosystem participants such as exchanges, mining pools and wallets will not have enough time to prepare systems before the mainnet activation at the end of July. Bowe\'s latest comments confirm that the upgrade will take place one week later than the original target date of July 21.

In June, Shielded Labs said Ironwood might provide evidence to prove whether the Orchard vulnerability had been exploited. \"When users migrate funds from an existing Orchard pool to a new pool, any potential counterfeiter faces a choice: try to transfer the counterfeit funds and risk exposure, or leave it behind and risk being unable to transfer in the future.\"

After the Orchard vulnerability was disclosed on June 3, the ZEC price plummeted 50% from $602.68 to $299.25. In the following weeks, ZEC prices rebounded, trading at $492.61 as of writing.

This week, Zcash reached a major currency milestone, with more than 80% of its maximum supply of 21 million ZECs issued. Data from ruZCASH on Monday showed that the current supply of ZEC is 16,806,723 units.
