Backpack launches 24/7 trading of tokenized U.S. stocks
Backpack announced that it has launched 24/7 trading of tokenized U.S. stocks, positioning itself as a bridge connecting the traditional stock market and the uninterrupted digital asset infrastructure.
The exchange announced on July 10 that users can now trade tokenized versions of real U.S. stocks 24/7, including weekends and holidays. The product breaks the traditional trading time limit-previously, U.S. stock trading only took place in about 6.5 hours per business day.
Backpack Securities: The infrastructure behind the product
This release is based on Backpack\'s previously disclosed securities business unit. The company describes its Backpack Securities program as a regulatory and custodian layer that supports tokenized stock trading.
Among the currently publicly available materials, details on specific custody arrangements, settlement mechanisms and jurisdictions \'licenses are still limited. Backpack\'s own blog post mentions securities infrastructure but does not elaborate on how shares are held, who the transfer agents are, or in which jurisdictions the product is currently available.
This model belongs to a growing category of platforms that aims to tokenize traditional stocks for native users of cryptocurrencies. Unlike competitors such as Robinhood, which recently launched its own blockchain, the solution does not create a stand-alone chain, but is built on the track of existing cryptocurrency exchanges.
24/7 What does tokenized stocks mean and what has not yet been verified
Ready-to-use stock trading solves a real pain point. Global investors in different time zones are currently unable to trade U.S. stocks outside of trading hours unless they use a limited after-hours system, which has wider spreads and less liquidity.
Tokenized stock trading is also connected to the broader real-world asset (RWA) movement, with the platform committed to bringing traditional financial instruments onto the chain. This is in sync with the development of cryptocurrency-native lending and payment infrastructure aimed at integrating digital asset tracks with traditional finance.
There are still several key issues outstanding. As of press time, there was no independent data on trading volume, depth of liquidity or number of backed stocks. Market reactions, chain activity indicators and regulatory responses have not been independently verified.
Investors and observers should pay attention to the clarity of information on which stocks are available, how corporate actions such as dividends and settlements are handled, and whether the product has received clear regulatory approval in the jurisdiction in which it operates. These details will determine whether the release represents a major shift in the way stocks are accessed or whether it remains at the level of niche products.
