AI economic settlement layer AEON launches "Agent Checkout" function to enable cross-platform independent shopping.
Hong Kong-based company AEON announced on Thursday that it has officially launched the "Agent Checkout" product. The product allows artificial intelligence agents to independently search, select products and complete payments on e-commerce platforms such as Shopify and Amazon. AEON issued a statement via a press release saying that the feature is supported by AEON AI Card, giving the agent controlled spending capabilities, thereby transforming the user's purchase intention into actual transactions.
How agent checkout works
Agentic Checkout natively integrates the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the Universal Business Protocol (UCP). Users only need to describe the products they need through the dialogue interface, and the agent can automatically search for products and build a shopping cart. After selecting the product, users can use the AEON AI Card to authorize purchase, and the transaction is settled through the Visa and Mastercard networks. In this process, the agent completes the transaction without exposing the user's main payment credentials or wallet information. AEON said the entire process, from discovering items to creating a shopping cart to paying, can be completed in one go.
Achieve controlled expenditures through AI cards
The core of this product is the AEON AI Card. The company pointed out that the card supports single-use agent cards and preset budget limits, limiting spending rights to specific tasks or transactions. AEON said the card is based on cryptographic asset authorization and connects to existing Visa payment infrastructure, building a bridge between assets on the chain and daily commerce. The design is designed to allow the agent to spend on behalf of the user without having to directly access the user's main wallet or traditional credit card.
Expand wider commercial applications while ensuring security
Through Shopify, agents can search for products from more than 3 million active stores in 175 countries. In addition, AEON also announced plans to support Amazon and travel platform Travala in the future. The company emphasizes that the complete card number and security code will never enter the conversation log or model context; the system will verify uncertain payment status before any retry operation to prevent repeated deductions.
This launch marks a further expansion of AEON's previously launched AI proxy payment gateway on BNB Chain and its integration with Reserve's intelligent commerce. AEON said its settlement layer has processed cumulative transaction volume of more than US$514 million for 2.3 million users and has support from investors such as YZi Labs, IDG Capital and HashKey Capital.
