The Bitcoin wallet that has been sleeping for 15 years is suddenly active, with 20.43 bitcoins worth about US$1.7 million.
A Bitcoin (BTC) wallet that has not been moved for more than ten years is suddenly activated recently, transferring out 20.43 bitcoins, which is approximately US$1.7 million based on the current market value. According to a tweet posted on Wednesday by cryptocurrency analysis platform Onchain Lens, these bitcoins were purchased at a total cost of approximately US$70 when the bitcoin price was between US$3 and US$4, with a return on investment of more than 20,000 times.
Blockchain records also show that the address was previously associated with Mt. Gox( Mt. Gox Exchange) and Silk Road, both names closely related to Bitcoin's early history.
It is worth noting that the holder divided the 20.43 bitcoins into two transfers. One of them was 10.33 bitcoins (current value approximately US$863,000) and was first received on May 8, 2011; the other contained 10.10 bitcoins (current value approximately US$844,000) and was originally received on May 1, 2011.
Several long-term idle bitcoins have been awakened recently
This transfer of 20.43 bitcoins is not an isolated incident. On September 5, twelve wallets each holding 50 bitcoins acted at the same time. These bitcoins were all mined in March 2010 and had been silent for more than 16 years. They transferred a total of 600 bitcoins. Subsequently, Galaxy Research pointed out that four other wallets also had movements. These wallets had been idle for more than ten years, and a total of 1,971.03 bitcoins were transferred between September 6 and 22.
In addition, on September 19, a wallet from 2011 released 100 bitcoins worth approximately $8.09 million. Three days later, 600 bitcoins worth approximately $51.9 million were transferred from an address that had been silent since July 2012.
Analysts assess sustainability of Bitcoin market demand
With the above-mentioned capital flows, analysts are assessing whether Bitcoin's recent rebound has enough underlying demand support to continue.
CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost said that the Bitcoin market is increasingly dominated by futures trading, while spot demand remains weak. According to the analyst, the Binance spot to futures trading volume ratio is approximately 0.12, which means that the scale of futures activity is much larger than spot trading. He described spot demand as a "missing link" and warned that a rally driven mainly by futures could become unstable if direct buying failed to strengthen.
Another analyst, MorenoDV, takes a more cautious view on bitcoin demand indicators. He pointed out that the 90-day trading pressure margin had recovered from negative territory and entered a range associated with stronger buying pressure. However, MorenoDV noted that the indicator was still below levels seen during weaker market expansion. The analyst said the key question was whether buying pressure could continue to increase while Bitcoin maintained its recent rebound.
Giant whale positions rebound, retail investors remain flat
