Strategy (Nasdaq: MSTR), led by billionaire Michael Siler, was once the largest Bitcoin buyer in the cryptocurrency market. Because of this, the company\'s recent sale of bitcoins shocked the market, because Siler has repeatedly stressed that it will never sell bitcoins. At the end of May, the company sold 32 bitcoins for approximately $2.5 million, followed by a further 3588 bitcoins for $216 million at the end of June.
However, bitcoin prices have moved relatively smoothly over the past month, which has attracted the attention of Matt Hogan, chief investment officer of Bitwise. In an interview released on July 8, Hou Gen said that Bitcoin \"ignored\" Strategy\'s sell-off and did not fall significantly. He pointed out that over the past few years, Siler\'s company has been the largest buyer of Bitcoin, but that role is weakening because it is no longer a \"major source of marginal capital.\"
Hagen emphasized that this is not a new trend, as the main buyers of Bitcoin have been constantly changing in its short 15-year history. Initially, cyberpunk was the dominant force; then retail investors rose in Asia, then retail investors in the United States; and then Strategy consolidated its position as the largest buyer. But Hagen predicts that the baton will be passed on to institutional investors. \"The next marginal buyer is the ultimate BOSS in the investment world... that is institutional capital,\" Hou Gen predicted.
Hogan added that Wall Street professionals previously could damage reputation by supporting cryptocurrencies, but now ignoring these assets could bring risks. Investment giants like BlackRock and Fidelity already offer Bitcoin products to retail investors, and more issuers are waiting in line.
Currently, Strategy still holds 843,775 bitcoins, making it the largest holder of bitcoins. As of press time, the Bitcoin transaction price was US$62,860.
