Former SWIFT chief innovation officer breaks heavy news: SWIFT is using XRP

Rumors of SWIFT and XRP have made waves again, with the former chief innovation officer clearly denying that

Rumors of a connection between SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Banking and Financial Telecommunications) and XRP (Ripple) have been heard endlessly for years. Whenever cross-border payments and blockchain technology become the focus of discussion, such statements often resurface. However, in response to a recent round of speculation, a former executive who was involved in developing SWIFT\'s innovation strategy has responded directly, clearly rejecting the claim that the global financial messaging network plan supports XRP.

Tom Zschach, former chief innovation officer at SWIFT, dismissed rumors that SWIFT was interested in integrating XRP into its business. In response to speculation on social media, Zachah bluntly stated that the rumored integration \"will not happen,\" which directly refuted the viral claims that SWIFT would adopt XRP rather than develop its own digital asset strategy.

The core opinion of the rumor: \"It won\'t happen\"

Reports advocating so-called integration lack evidence to support it, but repeatedly spread the narrative that certain groups in the cryptocurrency field are keen on, although SWIFT has never given any official confirmation.

Zachah has always opposed this statement.

Zachah\'s latest remarks this time are consistent with the views he expressed during his six years as Chief Innovation Officer of SWIFT and after leaving office (the position will last until April 2026). During that time, he has publicly questioned the idea that privately issued cryptocurrencies such as XRP will become the core of the infrastructure used by the world\'s largest financial institutions.

One of his most widely circulated metaphors is that using private bridging assets for global settlement is like calling a fax machine the Internet. His view is that while such technology may increase speed, it is not the kind of institutional infrastructure banks seek in large-scale financial operations.

Zakhah also insists that traditional financial institutions trust SWIFT\'s neutral governance model-where thousands of member banks jointly set standards rather than relying on infrastructure tied to a single business entity.

SWIFT\'s blockchain strategy has another focus

This renewed speculation also contradicts SWIFT\'s public blockchain strategy. Rather than adopting public cryptocurrencies as settlement assets, SWIFT focuses on developing infrastructure that connects existing financial systems with emerging digital asset technologies.

The organization has collaborated with Consensus sys on blockchain projects and conducted tokenization and interoperability trials involving major financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase and Deutsche Bank. These efforts are mainly focused on enabling communication between tokenized assets, central bank digital currencies and existing banking networks, rather than introducing public cryptocurrencies into the settlement process.

As a result, there has never been any official indication that SWIFT intends to make XRP a native part of its payment infrastructure.

Why do rumors appear repeatedly?

The long-standing talk surrounding the potential relationship between SWIFT and XRP is largely because blockchain interoperability experiments are often interpreted as a signal of an imminent partnership. In many cases, testing of different technologies is used by online information as evidence of future adoption, when in reality there is no such commitment.

Relevant reports emphasized that Zachach\'s latest statement once again reminds people that these claims are still speculation. Although he left SWIFT earlier this year to focus on artificial intelligence and institutional finance, his comments reiterated a position he has maintained for years.

As discussions continue on the future of global payments and digital assets, the evidence remains that SWIFT is pursuing its own blockchain and tokenization initiatives rather than integrating XRP into its core network.
