DOT Parity Technologies sets JAM migration target for 2027
As a core technology contributor to Polkadot, Parity Technologies announced plans to migrate Parachain functionality to JAM (Join Accumulate Machine) and set a product launch target for 2027. This move represents one of the most far-reaching structural changes in Polkadot's history and will fundamentally reshape how parallel chains work.
Parity's implementation team will share technical updates via the Polkadot forum, providing developers and community members with direct access to project progress reports. The shift from Substrate pallets to JAM services reduces governance friction because JAM services are deployed in a permission-free manner, similar to smart contracts, whereas Substrate pallets require on-chain governance approval to deploy and update. This flexibility is the core reason to support migration.
From grey paper to active development
This program follows JAM's progressive development path from concept to practical engineering. In April 2024, Polkadot founder Dr. Gavin Wood released the JAM Gray Paper. Since then, the specification has undergone many revisions, and the JAM agreement has been basically stable over the past year.
JAM is supported by a large community of independent implementers, which provides meaningful network diversity and reduces the risk of a single team's mistakes affecting the entire network. This decentralized development approach is a thoughtful design choice and a key feature that distinguishes JAM from earlier Polkadot upgrades.
