Robinhood Chain has a single-day handling fee of US$4.5 million, while Ethereum settlement costs are only approximately US$398.
On September 3, Robinhood Chain charged approximately US$4.5 million in transaction fees, while the cost of publishing data and certification on Ethereum is estimated to be only US$398. This data vividly demonstrates how low Layer 1 settlement costs can be when Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) network activity is busy.
According to statistics from Bitquery, as of September 3, Robinhood Chain has processed a total of approximately 597 million transactions, with a cumulative handling fee of approximately US$23 million. The network leverages Ethereum's Blob feature to provide data availability, while Ethereum (ETH) remains its native Gas token. Currently, according to L2Beat data, only two whitelisted participants have the right to challenge Robinhood Chain's status updates. In addition, under the terms of the Arbitration Expansion Program license, Arbitration receives 10% of Robinhood Chain's net agreement revenue.
Extremely high fee-to-settlement cost ratio
Bitquery report shows that Robinhood Chain charged users US$4,503,705 on September 3. Of this, approximately $396 was used to publish data on Ethereum, and another $2 was used to generate certification results. The resulting fee to settlement cost ratio is approximately 11,400:1.
This data partially confirms the analysis expressed by South Korean digital asset research institute Digital Asset on September 2: The rapid expansion of Layer 2 may not bring proportional economic value to the Ethereum main network. However, it should be noted that the conclusions provided in this publication are analytical in nature, while the underlying fee, structure and settlement data are objective facts that can be independently verified.
Revenue concentrated in recent outbreaks
Bitquery reviewed Robinhood Chain's performance from its first block on April 30 to September 3, counting approximately 597 million transactions across 54 million blocks. During this period, the network generated a cumulative transaction fee of approximately US$23 million. Most of the income occurs in the second half of the cycle.
Data shows that about 70% of the cumulative handling fees came from after August 24, when the network's basic rate deviated from the lower limit of 0.02 gwei. As Gas consumption roughly tripled, daily fees surged from $54,701 on August 22 to $4.5 million on September 3.
In comparison, the Ethereum bill on September 3 seems insignificant. Bitquery accurately calculated execution layer components and estimated Blob fees by sampling 24 batch receipts on the same day, and concluded that the cost of publishing data was approximately US$396, proving that the relevant cost was US$2. Even if each sampled Blob batch is priced at the highest rate of the day, the settlement bill is still far below Robinhood Chain's user fees.
Robinhood Chain
Arbitrum
