New Ethereum pledgers will have to wait about 25 days before they can earn revenue.
As of October 5, according to data from validatorqueue.com, 1.44 million ETH were in queue status.
As MetaMask gradually deactivates its running verification nodes via Lido, the queue dropped from a peak of 850,736 ETH on October 2 to 767,349 ETH. The current processing time for out-of-team processing is approximately 13 days and 8 hours.
Lido verifier added 17,000 new queuing places in a few days
After the security incident was disclosed on September 30, MetaMask began to remove the relevant verification nodes. About 17,000 verification nodes (involving approximately 523,000 ETH) joined the queue, all of which had previously run on Lido, the largest liquidity pledge protocol.
On September 29, the queue size was close to 166,000 ETH. It then quickly climbed to more than 850,000 ETH within a few days, and then began to gradually decrease.
Due to the limitations of the "throughput" mechanism, Ethereum limits the amount of pledges that flow into or out of the verification set, currently limited to 256 ETH in both directions per epoch (approximately 6.4 minutes). This means that only approximately 57,600 ETH of pledges can be cleared on each side every day.
The current total pledged ETH is approximately 43.7 million, accounting for approximately 36% of the supply. The number of active validators is 866,944. The pledge yield is approximately 2.6%.
Lido sets the re-enqueue time for withdrawing pledges to 45 days
ETH withdrawn by MetaMask may also extend the queue time. Lido said that the exit from the team was temporary and expected to recover most of the pledged assets, but the time for re-joining the team could be up to 45 days.
Cryptopolitan reported on October 1 that the last affected validators should complete the dequeuing operation by October 7, but do not have to withdraw funds completely.
Joseph Lubin, founder of Consensus sys, posted on the X platform: "Your secret recovery phrase, private key and assets in your wallet have not been affected by this incident because they cannot be touched at all." MetaMask emphasizes that its pledge service is a non-escrow model and does not hold customers 'withdrawal keys.
As a precautionary measure, Lubin said the company has rotated its verifier keys. The rotated verifier must exit the queue and rejoin the queue before pledging again.
MetaMask has issued a warning to users to alert to phishing attacks and protect secret recovery phrases.
As of press time, ETH prices were approximately US$2,715, up 0.4% in 24 hours. Based on this price, the value of approximately 523,000 ETH withdrawn from the MetaMask verification node is approximately US$1.42 billion.
