The U.S. government transfers 9,261 bitcoins worth US$770 million to Coinbase Prime

The U.S. government has transferred 9,261 bitcoins worth approximately US$770 million to Coinbase Prime, assets derived from previous crackdowns and seizures on cryptocurrency criminal activities.

Galaxy Research analysis points out that part of the funds came from the Bitfinex hacking case and known seizures

According to Galaxy Research's X (formerly Twitter) post posted on Thursday, half of the 9,261 bitcoins transferred in the past two days were recovered from the Bitfinex hacking case, and the other part came from known Binance-related seizure assets.

New sources or represent the results of the latest law enforcement actions

In addition, an additional 2,456 bitcoins originated from previously unknown holding addresses and were sent to the U.S. government's exclusive seizure address on Coinbase Prime. Galaxy believes that this part of the funds may represent the latest seizure by law enforcement agencies.

On-chain data shows government continues to recover crypto-assets

On-chain data shows that the U.S. government continues to recover assets from past crypto-criminal activities. Since 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service has been using Coinbase Prime as an escrow service provider to process seized assets.

The market is concerned about potential sales, but is restricted by presidential executive order

The flow of funds in the government's label wallet had previously triggered speculation about a potential sell-off. However, a sale would conflict with an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump in March 2025. The order clearly stipulates that seized bitcoins cannot be sold and should be included in the United States '"strategic bitcoin reserve."

Media contacted relevant departments for comment

Cointelegraph has contacted the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Justice to seek comment on the asset transfer.

Background review: There was also a large-scale transfer of crypto assets in July

As early as July this year, the U.S. government transferred US$297 million worth of Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH) to Coinbase Prime. These funds also originated from high-profile U.S. government crypto asset seizure operations.
