Internet Computer Protocol sets a record low for average weekly transaction fees
According to @Chainspect, Internet Computer Protocol (@dfinity) set a new blockchain efficiency benchmark on October 7, 2026: average weekly transaction fees are as low as $0.0000828. This figure is a fraction of a few cents, making $ICP one of the lowest transaction costs in the world.
Revenue hits record highs and fees are almost zero
This milestone is eye-catching because of the background behind it. Although transaction fees for individual users are almost negligible, the network generated more than $96,000 in on-chain cash flow in the same seven days. A few days before this, on September 29, 2026, CoinMarketCap tracking showed that the network's weekly agreement fee was US$85,089. This trend suggests that Internet usage is growing rather than a one-time surge.
This seemingly contradictory phenomenon-user costs are at historically low levels while network revenue is rising-stems from the unique design of Internet computers. Developers prepay computing costs by converting $ICP to purchase "cycles" that are then destroyed to drive the application. When developers convert ICPs into cycles to pay for resources, the network generates revenue, and those ICPs are subsequently destroyed. Users trading on the network benefit from the resulting low fees, while the supply of underlying tokens gradually dwindles.
Networks built for scalability
ICP can process up to 11,500 transactions per second, and the final confirmation time takes only 1 second, significantly faster than Bitcoin and Ethereum. This throughput, combined with its ultra-low cost, constitutes the core advantage of the network as a decentralized cloud platform. In the first quarter of 2026, the Internet computer blockchain processed 1 billion transactions on 47 subnets and had 1.2 million active wallets.
In terms of token economics, DFINITY's ongoing "Mission 70" program aims to significantly reduce the annual token inflation rate and tighten supply as developer demand grows. The network has introduced a destruction mechanism, whereby part of the cloud engine costs are used to purchase and permanently destroy ICPs. If sustained on-chain cash flow is maintained, it could accelerate this destruction rate and have a longer-term impact on token supply.
At present, the most eye-catching figure is still the fee itself: US$0.000828 per transaction. For a network that processes billions of transactions and generates considerable revenue, this is a data point that cannot be ignored.
