Peter Brandt favors Monero, while Ripple faces supply resistance
Among the multiple altcoin charts compared, veteran trader Peter Brandt prefers Monero, believing that the historical selling pressure above it has been absorbed. In contrast, Ripple (XRP) may face selling pressure from early high investors, creating resistance and hindering its rebound towards $2.16.
Although the inverted form being formed in Ripple has a short right shoulder and poor structure, Brandt said that this form can be referred to without further development. The target price of US$2.16 on the daily chart and the forecast of US$5.40 on the previous monthly chart correspond to different technical patterns rather than revisions to a single forecast.
Why Brant prefers Monero
Although Brant pointed out the potential for Ripple to rise to US$2.16, he still believes Monero is a better choice. The senior trader pointed out that Ripple is facing huge upper supply pressure, which may interrupt the market's recovery momentum. In contrast, in his chart assessment, Monero has absorbed similar supply pressures. This preference reflects differences in trading technology forms, rather than a value judgment on the underlying technologies of the two cryptocurrencies.
Brant also compared Solana, Ethereum and Stellar during the same period, highlighting their differences in resistance levels and chart structure. For Ripple, a bullish target is conditional: its developing form may change, and as the market approaches the entry price for early investors, these investors may choose to sell for profit.
Brant listed Monero as the strongest choice in the altcoin charts he reviewed. He believes that Monero's previous overhead supply has been completely absorbed, leaving a clearer technical path. "Among these currencies, my favorite is undoubtedly XMR (Monero code)." This assessment explains why Ripple, with a bullish target, has not become his preferred trading target. A chart can hint at potential benefits while still showing obstacles along the way.
The so-called "supply above" refers to the potential selling behavior of holders who buy at a price higher than the current market price. When prices recover, some holders may withdraw near the original purchase price, limiting further price increases. Brandt sees this as a significant negative factor for Ripple. His comparison focuses on the relative burdens shown in charts for each currency covering the same period.
Brandt's $2.16 target is based on a potential "inverse head and shoulders" pattern. He uses daily closing prices to measure the formation of the pattern, rather than intraday highs and lows. This pattern consists of three troughs, the trough in the middle being deeper than the two on both sides. Projecting the height of the form upwards to obtain a measurement target, but the target must be based on the premise that the form develops as expected.
His previous daily chart of Ripple has highlighted a "cup handle shape". He had suggested that this smaller form could become the right shoulder of a larger inverted structure. However, in his assessment, the shoulder remained short and poorly developed. Although further morphological development is more likely, he made it clear that he did not believe that further development was necessary.
Brant warned that chart shapes could evolve into different configurations as trading continues. Therefore, the predicted target location does not guarantee that the market will definitely get there. "Goals or target prices are not sacred and inviolable." He wrote.
Ripple's price target is also different from the $5.40 forecast he shared on September 21. The assessment comes from monthly charts and targets a separate, longer-term structure. He did not describe $2.16 as a replacement for $5.40, nor did he point out that the lower number was the intermediate stop point necessary to reach the higher goal.
In comments on September 26, Brandt said that the Ripple chart alone was enough to consider a transaction. Later, he called on Ripple supporters not to view his technical criticism as a personal offense.
