The destruction of Shiba Inu coins in a single day hits a six-month high

According to online data, Shiba Inu destroyed more than 110 million SHIBs on July 8, setting a single-day record in six months. During the same period, weekly destruction climbed to 152 million SHIBs, injecting new impetus into the token\'s long-standing deflationary narrative.

A destruction mechanism rooted in history

The principle of token destruction is to permanently remove the tokens from circulation by sending the SHIB to an address that no one can access. On the Shiba Inu network, each transaction contributes part of the fee to the process, making destruction a continuous, community-driven activity.

This practice has a long history. In May 2021, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin destroyed 90% of his SHIB holdings, which was worth US$6.7 billion at the time, transferring more than 410 trillion tokens to an inaccessible blockchain address and taking it out of circulation. Butrin\'s previous SHIB accounted for half of the total supply, a move that was considered a marketing stunt at the time. That destruction remains the most iconic moment in the history of SHIB deflation and accounts for the vast majority of all destroyed tokens in history.

Since its birth, Shiba Inu has destroyed more than 410 trillion coins, reducing the original total supply of 1000 trillion yuan by more than 40%.

Scale and supply: Continuing challenges

Despite the recent increase in destruction activities, this figure is still negligible compared to SHIB\'s huge circulating supply. The current circulation supply is about 584 trillion to 585 trillion pieces, and the total supply is about 589 trillion pieces. In this context, the destruction of 110 million tokens in a single day can only bring about a slight change.

SHIB\'s destruction mechanism is a key deflationary strategy aimed at reducing the circulation supply in order to drive up demand and ultimately increase the market value of the tokens. However, historical data shows that a surge in destruction does not guarantee a subsequent increase in prices. Previously, SHIB had experienced a surge in destruction rates by thousands of percentage points, but did not trigger a corresponding price rebound.

For now, the amount of destruction in a single day has hit a six-month high, indicating a recovery in community activity. But to materially change the supply landscape, sustained transaction volume growth far beyond current levels will be needed.
