Charles Schwab is expanding his digital assets division with multiple new positions related to blockchain engineering, security and cryptocurrency products. The recruitment comes as the broker is preparing to launch a spot cryptocurrency trading platform. As of May 2026, Schwab managed US$13.14 trillion in client assets and had 39.3 million active brokerage accounts, highlighting the importance of its latest cryptocurrency layout.

Charles Schwab further promotes cryptocurrency layout

Wall Street giant Charles Schwab is taking a new step towards the vision of cryptocurrency. The broker is actively recruiting blockchain engineers, security experts and cryptocurrency product managers. The company, which manages $19 trillion in assets, is working hard to expand its digital asset division before planning to launch a cryptocurrency trading platform.

Jake Hahn, a member of Charles Schwab\'s digital assets team, announced on LinkedIn this week that the company is recruiting multiple positions, including senior blockchain engineer, senior security engineer, cryptocurrency technology project manager, cryptocurrency product manager, and on-chain product manager. \"Schwab\'s digital assets business is just getting started,\" Hahn wrote, inviting candidates to apply directly or contact him.

This latest hiring move shows Schwab is entering the next phase of its digital asset strategy. In the past week, the broker has posted multiple job openings related to blockchain engineering, cybersecurity, cryptocurrency product management and on-chain product development, indicating that it is building a technical and compliance infrastructure to expand the scale of its cryptocurrency business after the initial phase.

Schwab goes beyond the ETF category

Over the past few years, Schwab has gradually increased its exposure to digital assets. Until two months ago, it only offered cryptocurrency-related investment products to clients through its brokerage platform, as well as spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs. Today, the company says its customers hold nearly 20% of products traded on spot cryptocurrency exchanges across the United States.

However, the company\'s ambitions now go beyond investing in products. In April, CEO Rick Wurster confirmed that Schwab planned to launch spot Bitcoin and Ethereum transactions when the regulatory environment became more favorable. The recruitment event comes as Charles Schwab continues to advance the phased launch of his direct spot cryptocurrency trading platform \"Schwab Crypto\". The platform, announced in April 2026, initially supports Bitcoin and Ethereum, and is gradually opening it up to eligible retail customers.

The platform plans to integrate cryptocurrency trading into Schwab.com, the Schwab mobile app and the thinkorswim platform. In addition, research reports from the Schwab Financial Research Center, round-the-clock customer service support and 75 basis points per transaction will be provided. The broker also said it plans to add more cryptocurrencies in the future and supports the deposit and withdrawal of cryptocurrencies.

What is Schwab\'s cryptocurrency strategy

In addition to engineering, Schwab has also strengthened its regulatory capabilities. In May, the company hired a digital asset compliance director, a former FINRA executive who had been responsible for regulatory matters related to cryptocurrencies. This move shows that Schwab is simultaneously building the technical and compliance infrastructure needed to serve regulated digital assets.

This recruitment action is significant given the size of Schwab. According to the company\'s latest monthly business report, as of May 2026, Charles Schwab managed US$13.14 trillion in client assets and had 39.3 million active brokerage accounts. During the month, the broker also attracted $49.9 billion in core net new assets, a year-on-year increase of 42%. 461,000 new brokerage accounts were opened, an increase of 37% over the same period last year. Customer engagement remained strong, with an average daily transaction volume of 11.8 million transactions, setting a monthly record.

In this context, Schwab\'s expansion of its digital asset team and plans to launch a cryptocurrency trading platform could become a major driving force for institutional cryptocurrency trading.
