After several consecutive weeks of dominated by net outflows of funds, spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track the top two cryptocurrencies by market value have finally reversed their trend. The shift comes as two asset prices are rebounding positively: market leader Bitcoin trading above $64,000, and altcoin Ethereum is hitting the $1,800 resistance level.
Bitcoin ETF finally sees a net inflow of funds
In the past few months, CryptoPotato has repeatedly reported that spot Bitcoin ETF performs poorly. This negative trend began in the week that ended May 15, when a net inflow of $1 billion was recorded. In the following three weeks, the large-scale withdrawal of funds remained on the order of billions of dollars. After net outflows shrank slightly to $316 million and $227 million in mid-June, investors recorded the largest net outflow of $1.79 billion in the last full trading week of the month (since February 2025). As of the week ending July 2, another US$526 million was withdrawn from the fund, further consolidating the capital outflow trend-the cumulative withdrawal from ETFs exceeded US$8 billion in eight weeks.
Things have finally improved over the past week, although not flawlessly. The five trading days finally recorded a net inflow of nearly US$200 million, which was the first time in two months that a single weekly net inflow was achieved. Monday was the most eye-catching, with a single-day inflow of US$265.69 million. It followed up on Tuesday with $21.44 million, with an inflow of $90.44 million on Friday. On Wednesday and Thursday, it returned to deficit, recording net outflows of $84.86 million and $95.3 million respectively.
The underlying asset price responded positively to changes in investor behavior, rising by 3% weekly and recovering above US$64,000.
Ethereum ETF closely followed
In the past few months, the spot Ethereum ETF has performed exactly the same as the Bitcoin ETF, recording only a net outflow of funds for eight consecutive weeks. During this round of sharp fluctuations, the cumulative net outflow dropped sharply from US$12.09 billion to US$10.89 billion. However, similar to its \"big brother\" Bitcoin, Ethereum has also regained investor favor in the past week. The decline was finally broken, with a net inflow of US$84.42 million-the best performance since the week ended April 24.
What is more noteworthy is that the Ethereum ETF has experienced an outflow of funds in only one of the past seven trading days (investors withdrew $52.08 million on July 9). By comparison, net inflows were $20.66 million on Monday,$27 million on Tuesday,$70.48 million on Wednesday, and $18.43 million on Friday.
Ethereum prices rose in sync, with a weekly gain of 2.7%, and are currently challenging the key $1,800 resistance level.
