BTC Bitcoin fell below US$83,000, and leveraged long positions suffered heavy losses.
Bitcoin prices have fallen below the US$83,000 mark, exacerbating the previous wave of cryptocurrency selling and causing hundreds of millions of dollars of highly leveraged long positions to evaporate instantly. This trend has been accompanied by a deterioration in the flow of institutional funds. According to data from Farside Investors, the U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of US$89.8 million on October 5, and another net outflow of US$3.2 million occurred on October 6. As the macro environment weakens, one of the sources of buying pressure has been removed.
Bitcoin was trading around $86,600 on Tuesday before the sell-off accelerated. This means that in just one day, the price of Bitcoin has dropped by more than $3,500.
The US$550 million liquidation wave accelerates Bitcoin's decline
The leverage effect amplified the decline. Within 24 hours, about $550 million in crypto asset positions were forcibly liquidated, of which about $487 million came from long positions, forcing traders betting on price increases out.
During the first major wave of liquidations, the price of Bitcoin fell from US$85,341 to US$83,790 in about 20 minutes. This mechanism is crucial because forced liquidation creates additional selling pressure, whether or not the holder is willing to exit the market.
Crude oil, government bond yields and US dollar index pressure
