Block gave away US$85,000 worth of bitcoins at ComplexCon event in Los Angeles
Block, a financial technology company led by Jack Dorsey, donated US$85,000 worth of bitcoins to a lucky participant at this year's ComplexCon event in Los Angeles. The move is part of the company's continued push for widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies.
Bringing Bitcoin to ComplexCon
ComplexCon is an annual event hosted by Complex Networks that attracts thousands of visitors interested in culture, music, fashion and technology. This year, Block set up an interactive booth to introduce Bitcoin to new users through entertainment and digital payments.
Block's Cash App and a game called "Lightning Lake" were displayed at the event. Participants can win small bitcoin rewards through the game, with one participant winning an entire bitcoin (BTC) as the highest reward.
Maria Pesce, head of Bitcoin marketing atBlock, said: "We want to make Bitcoin accessible, concrete and fun." She emphasized that the event allowed participants to experience using Bitcoin in real-life scenarios, from first exposure to consumption using digital assets.
She said: "At Block, our goal is to make Bitcoin an everyday currency, and ComplexCon provides us with an opportunity to introduce Bitcoin to new audiences through culture, shopping and gaming."
According to Block, celebrities including Kanye West's daughter North West and rapper French Montana also visited the "Lightning Lake" booth to participate in the Bitcoin raffle game.
Block promotes integration of Bitcoin into daily life
Block, formerly known as Square, is a well-known financial technology company dedicated to developing payment solutions and promoting the use of cryptocurrencies. Its Cash App allows users to easily buy, sell and receive bitcoins, and Square's POS terminal also accepts bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network.
Earlier this month, Block launched a new advertising campaign aimed at encouraging consumers to use Bitcoin as a medium of exchange, rather than just as a store of value.
Jack Dorsey will leave his Twitter position in 2021 to focus on advancing the development of payment technology and cryptocurrencies. He has repeatedly expressed his vision that Bitcoin will become a global currency and be integrated into daily transactions.
Noun explanation: Lightning Network
This is a layer 2 protocol running based on the Bitcoin blockchain that aims to enable fast, low-cost transactions and promote daily use of Bitcoin by supporting micropayments.
Through initiatives such as the ComplexCon giveaway event, Block continues to target new audiences and promote the use of Bitcoin in daily life. The company combines cultural, shopping and technological elements to lower the threshold for cryptocurrency adoption.
