ETH BitMine Chairman Tom Lee: Only about 100,000 ETH away from holding 5% of Ethereum supply
At the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore, BitMine Chairman Tom Lee said that the company still needs to purchase about 100,000 ETH to achieve its goal of holding 5% of the total Ethereum supply. Once this goal is achieved, the company's hoarding behavior will immediately stop.
"This is a hard cap and we will not continue to increase our holdings after reaching 5%." Lee said.
According to BitMine's latest filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the number of ETH it holds has reached 6,016,414, accounting for approximately 4.9% of Ethereum's total supply of 122.1 million units.
Continue to buy every week, forming a stable source of demand.
The importance of BitMine lies not only in the huge size of its treasury, but also in the consistency of its purchasing behavior. The company revealed that since launching the Ethereum treasury strategy on June 30, 2025, they have continued to buy ETH every week.
Recent increases in holdings include 27,562 ETH units, followed by 17,362 ETH units, and an additional 15,112 ETH units purchased during the most recent reporting period. This makes BitMine one of the clearest and most stable sources of corporate spot demand in the Ethereum market.
In addition, as the company gradually approaches its long-term target of 5%, its accumulation rate has accelerated significantly. In April this year, BitMine purchased 101,627 ETH in one go; in a transaction in June, it added 76,881 ETH.
What happens when this demand disappears?
