Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng: Bitcoin may overtake gold in the next bull market
Binance co-founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) believes that as governments rethink the composition of strategic reserves, Bitcoin is expected to overtake gold in the next round of cryptocurrency bull market. Currently, the market value of gold is still about ten times that of Bitcoin, but Zhao Changpeng predicts that sovereign countries 'cryptographic reserves will favor Bitcoin over other digital assets. In addition, stablecoins may lead the popularization of artificial intelligence payments, while automated transactions may be the first to develop because the market has an urgent need for rapid information processing and efficient execution.
Bitcoin's market value is expected to surpass gold, but governments and institutions need to adjust reserve strategies
Zhao Changpeng made this prediction at the "Bitcoin Asia 2026" conference in Hong Kong, where he discussed Bitcoin's expanding global role. He pointed out that if Bitcoin wants to achieve a milestone beyond the market value of gold, governments and institutions will need to rethink how to build strategic reserves. Currently, the market value of gold is about ten times that of Bitcoin, and there is a significant gap between the two. However, Zhao Changpeng believes that as investors increasingly recognize digital assets as potential reserve tools, Bitcoin is expected to narrow this gap. This shift is not just a matter of rising Bitcoin prices, because gold already has mature valuation, reserve and trading systems that took decades to establish in major economies, giving gold a solid position in sovereign financial strategies. Therefore, replacing gold with Bitcoin requires gradual institutional changes rather than just a round of strong market performance.
Zhao Changpeng predicts that as the cryptocurrency market and supporting infrastructure mature, the sovereign government will allocate more reserves into digital assets. In his vision, Bitcoin could account for more than 50% of the country's strategic crypto reserves, and Ethereum and Binance (BNB) could also be allocated, but Bitcoin would still maintain the largest share. Bitcoin has risen more than 25% in the past week, recovering from previous market weakness. At the same time, gold broke through $4600, and despite the stronger performance of the Bitcoin market, gold still maintains a huge valuation advantage. Bitcoin traded at close to $79700 on Thursday, rising 1.5% in the past 24 hours. However, Zhao Changpeng's forecast is still based on the next bull market cycle rather than Bitcoin's current market valuation.
Zhao Changpeng: Stable coins are the starting point for the integration of AI and cryptocurrencies
Zhao Changpeng also discussed how artificial intelligence interacts with cryptocurrencies in trading platforms and payment networks. He expects this integration to start with stablecoins because of their stable value and suitable for automated transactions. Once the artificial intelligence system accepts stablecoins, developers can add bitcoin payments without making large-scale technical adjustments. However, he believes AI-assisted transactions will evolve before payment systems that are fully controlled by AI. Trading requires rapid collection of information, instant interpretation of news, analysis of charts, and efficient execution under changing market conditions. These requirements provide a practical application scenario for artificial intelligence-automated systems can process multiple signals at the same time. In contrast, consumers can already efficiently make many regular payments through traditional bank cards and existing digital payment services. Zhao Changpeng estimates that artificial intelligence can increase transaction efficiency tenfold by processing large amounts of information and quickly responding to market changes. In addition, AI systems can also help traders compare charts, news, liquidity conditions and price movements in a shorter period of time.
Bitcoin Reserve Outlook Outperforms Market Performance
Zhao Changpeng's remarks linked Bitcoin's potential reserve status to technological advances that could push cryptocurrencies beyond traditional investment categories. stablecoins could introduce artificial intelligence systems into blockchain transfers before bitcoin and other volatile digital assets are incorporated into the platform. In addition, automated trading is expected to increase cryptocurrency market activity by improving the way participants analyze information and execute investment strategies. Zhao Changpeng's prediction ultimately depends on whether governments and institutions give Bitcoin a greater role in the reserve portfolio. At the same time, stablecoins and AI-assisted transactions may broaden the utility of cryptocurrencies in financial markets and digital payment infrastructure.
