Bitwise announced the liquidation of the Dogecoin ETF, which is less than US$700,000 or a key factor.

Bitwise Investment Advisers announced on September 10 that it will clear and close the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (code: BWOW) less than a year after the fund began trading. The company said the move was part of its efforts to optimize its product portfolio to adapt to changing investor needs. At the same time, shareholders face a deadline: a decision must be made before NYSE Arca stops trading, which is before October.

BWOW Clearing and NYSE Arca Deadline

According to the Form 8-K file submitted by Bitwise, BWOW is expected to cease trading in NYSE Arca after October 14, 2026. Investors remaining in the fund will receive a cash distribution based on net asset value as of October 21, which is expected to be completed around October 22.

After the liquidation is completed, BWOW holders will no longer have shares of the ETF. In addition to Bitwise's reasons for optimizing product scope, the document provides no further explanation for shutting down BWOW.

BWOW's assets before closure

As of September 9, BWOW reported net assets of approximately US$687,700. According to the official website of the ETF, the fund holds 8,195,053.02 DOGE in the trust and issued 50,000 shares.

This asset base of less than US$700,000 suggests that before Bitwise announced liquidation, the product was very limited in size. It also provided background for managers 'decision to streamline its ETF scope, although Bitwise did not list assets or trading activity as a reason for shutting down BWOW.

Dogecoin ETF issuance fades

The Block reported that BWOW began trading in November 2025 and recorded approximately US$3 million in trading volume during its issuance, but has not reached that level since then. The closure will end a Dogecoin-focused ETF that has existed for less than a year. Shareholders can exit through the market until trading stops after October 14; those who still hold shares will enter a predetermined cash distribution process.
