Cash on hand and Ohio Senate race
Fairshake fully supports 32 serving House members
On the eve of the mid-term elections on November 3, the cryptocurrency political organization Fairshake announced its support for 32 serving House members. The list includes 19 Republicans and 13 Democrats.
These members all voted in favor of the CLARITY Act (the main piece of legislation on the market structure of the crypto industry) in July 2025. Among them, six candidates, including French Hill of Arkansas and Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, will each receive $1 million in support funding.
As of the end of August, Fairshake had approximately US$108 million in available cash. Its largest general election spending item still targets Sherrod Brown in Ohio, worth nearly $30 million.
Six members each received a million-dollar support
The six candidates who received a million-dollar support came from both parties, with a balanced proportion:
- Democrats: Janelle Bynum of Oregon, Steven Horsford of Nevada and Derek Tran of California.
- Republicans: French Hill of Arkansas, Bryan Steil of Wisconsin, and Bill Huizenga of Michigan.
Hill serves as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Steil leads its Digital Assets Subcommittee, and Huizenga is vice chairman of the committee.
Fairshake's major donors include individuals or companies associated with Coinbase, Ripple and Andreessen Horowitz. The organization's stated goal is to elect more lawmakers who support clear cryptocurrency rules.
Fairshake announced's largest general election spending item is located in Ohio. In September, the group said it planned to spend nearly $30 million against Democrat Sherrod Brown. Brown is running against Republican Senator Jon Husted for the seat.
Brown has served as chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and is skeptical of certain parts of the cryptocurrency industry. He lost the 2024 election due to the intervention of huge amounts of cryptocurrency money, ceding his seat to Republican Bernie Moreno.
Democratic Senator Ruben Gallego, who supports cryptocurrency legislation, criticized the action against Brown. He noted that a future market structure bill could require 60 Senate votes and bipartisan support.
Spending by industry-backed groups has also attracted criticism from some lawmakers. They worry that corporate money will shape cryptocurrency policy.
November elections will determine which party controls Congress when the new session begins in January 2027. If the CLARITY Act fails to advance before this date, lawmakers may need to restart efforts.
Fairshake has not disclosed its complete universal election budget. It is unclear whether the group will add more House or Senate spending before the November 3 election.
