Cardano stepped up efforts and adopted CIP-113 aiming mechanism

Cardano (ADA) deepens institutional infrastructure: CIP-113 consolidation and ecological expansion

As CIP-113 is officially integrated into the Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) master warehouse, Cardano (ADA) is further deepening its institutional infrastructure. The Cardano Foundation confirmed on September 29 that CIP-113 had completed the proposal process and was successfully merged into the main CIP warehouse.

CIP-113: Breakthrough in the Programmable Token Standard

It is worth noting that the standard introduces "programmable token-like assets" that can enforce rules such as KYC whitelists, blacklists, freezing mechanisms, transfer limits, and jurisdiction requirements on the chain. This milestone does not mean that CIP-113 has been widely deployed or that organizations are using programmable tokens on a large scale. Subsequent implementation and market adoption remain key challenges.

From a background perspective, CIP-113 is designed to address the limitations of traditional Cardano native tokens. Although existing assets can be set with casting rules, these rules cannot automatically govern every transfer after issuance. Programmable assets can add verification logic to the transfer process, allowing issuers to establish conditions that must be met before transactions can be accepted.

This ability is extremely valuable for regulated securities, stablecoins and real-world assets (RWAs), as compliance requirements can be part of the asset transfer process.

Charles Hoskinson's outlook on blockchain financial infrastructure

Charles Hoskinson has previously discussed the broader strategic direction of blockchain-based financial infrastructure. In a video released on September 15, Hoskinson said blockchain technology could revolutionize real-world assets, and elaborated on this point while discussing digital securities and industry standardization. He also explored the possibility of making smart contracts compatible with "KYC (Know Your Customer), AML (Anti-Money Laundering) and Anti-Terrorist Financing" requirements. Hoskinson suggested that zero-knowledge proof technology could help meet compliance requirements without exposing all sensitive information on the chain.

Although his comments did not directly mention CIP-113, these views covered multiple core challenges that programmable assets are designed to solve.

DeFi ecosystem expansion and introduction of Bitcoin liquidity

At the same time, Cardano's institutional advancement coincides with its efforts to expand the DeFi ecosystem and introduce Bitcoin liquidity. In a video on September 13, Hoskinson discussed the Pogun project, which aims to mirror Bitcoin to the Cardano network. He said the move could create a huge total locked value (TVL) and increase the level of activity in stablecoins.

Hoskinson said: "We will extract a lot of Bitcoin and mirror it to Cardano, which will immediately create a lot of TVLs."

It's worth noting that while Pogun can bring Bitcoin liquidity into Cardano's DeFi ecosystem, CIP-113 can provide programmable compliance controls for regulated assets built around these liquidity. He also described the use of bitcoin-backed assets in lending markets and stablecoin markets, which could allow BTC holders to seek gains without selling bitcoin.

Fireblocks supports Cardano native tokens

Cardano's institutional infrastructure is still being further expanded through Fireblocks. Last week, the Cardano Foundation announced that enterprise-level platform Fireblocks, which currently guarantees US$16 trillion worth of digital asset transactions, will fully support Cardano Native Tokens (CNT). This means users will keep, send and receive CNTs through their existing security policy infrastructure.

This support is expected to be available by March 2027 and will cover assets that comply with Cardano CIP-26 and CIP-68 standards.
