Samsung Wallet will support cross-border sending of USDC stablecoins through the Solana network.
The Solana Foundation announced on Wednesday that starting in late October, U.S. users will be able to send Circle-issued USDC stablecoins across borders on the Solana network via Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay. When launched, this feature will cover 82 million Galaxy devices in the U.S. market.
According to official information, the built-in legal currency deposit and withdrawal channel will enable conversion between local currency and stablecoin, while Solana's infrastructure will provide support in the background to ensure smooth operation of transactions.
Streamline the experience and integrate stablecoins into daily life
Woncheol Chai, head of Samsung Electronics 'mobile business digital wallet team, said: "stablecoins are expected to make global capital flows faster and more convenient. We hope Galaxy users can easily enjoy this convenience without having to face the complexity of traditional cryptocurrency tools."
Lily Liu, President of the Solana Foundation, commented: "Samsung chose to cooperate with Solana to truly bring digital dollars into people's daily lives with the help of one of the world's most trusted technology brands."
Previous planning and current details
Solana
Solana Mobile, as the smartphone branch of the Solana network, released the Saga phone in 2023 and launched the Seeker model last year, airdropping SKR tokens to Seeker users, but did not issue them to Saga owners. Kyle Samani, co-founder of Multicoin Capital, wrote after the announcement: "99% of people believe Yakovenko's move on mobile phones is stupid. I had the same idea once." But he added,"It was early work on Solana Mobile Stack that led to this collaboration with Samsung."
Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko responded by saying: "Of the 100 founder-led initiatives, 99 seem stupid. It would be foolish to do nothing. That's basically why startups are tough."
Theannouncement pointed out that in addition to the U.S. market, launches in other regions will be promoted one after another in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
