CryptoBilis claims to be an authorized distributor of Ledger products in Malaysia and sells related equipment in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The company has not yet responded to requests for comment.

It is speculated that the mechanism for this incident did not stem from a flaw in the Ledger software itself, but from the tampering of the supply chain. Zhao Changpeng, founder of Binance, pointed out that existing information indicates that this was a supply chain attack against a single supplier, and only a few people purchased counterfeit or tampered equipment.

Security researcher Taylor Monahan emphasized that there is no zero-day vulnerability in Ledger products and warned that hasty transfers of funds could expose users to a greater risk of phishing than the incident itself.

Some stolen funds have been laundered, and the freezing of stablecoins has triggered new developments

Some stolen funds have already flowed. On-chain tracking data shows that suspected attackers have laundered approximately 430 ETH pieces, worth approximately US$1.07 million, through the currency mixer Tornado Cash. In addition, approximately $70.6 million was still held in the Arkham tracking wallet linked to the theft.

Tether has frozen USDT funds related to stolen addresses. Subsequently, attackers began to exchange USDT for USDD, a stablecoin based on the wavefield network, because Tether was unable to freeze USDD.

Ledger declined further comment and its internal investigation is still ongoing.
