Cardano Foundation tokenizes Veridian shares: ADA rises 7.3% to outperform market

The Cardano Foundation operates Veridian independently and maps equity onto the chain.

On October 8, 2026, the Cardano Foundation divested its identity project Veridian into an independent company and mapped the company's shares onto the Cardano blockchain. According to the foundation, this is the first security issued on the chain under the new token standard CIP-0113. Since CoinDesk reported that the shares were not publicly traded, investors were unable to purchase such paper certificates. For ordinary users, the key is the underlying infrastructure behind it, because from now on, it will be on the same chain as your ADA.

As of October 10, 2026, the price of Cardano (ADA) was US$0.2546, up 7.3% in 24 hours and 3.63% in one week. This evaluation is based on a market overview prepared by cryptoticker.io on October 10, 2026 based on CoinGecko. During the same period, Bitcoin rose 0.08%, and Ethereum rose 0.78%. As a result, ADA's performance was significantly better than the market average. Whether Veridian's announcement contributed to the rally is unclear: no existing sources have established such a connection, and the spin-off is only two days old.

Veridian spin-off details: Cardano Foundation decisions

Prior to this, Veridian had been a project within the Cardano Foundation, dedicated to building digital identity infrastructure. Since October 8, it has become an independent Swiss-registered company and operates in the United States. According to crypto.news, citing the foundation, the technology is designed to allow people, organizations and AI agents to verify, confirm and revoke identities and delegated rights without a central database.

This step itself may just be a sideshow, but it is worth noting how the foundation handles the equity in the new company, which is now on the Cardano chain. Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, told CoinDesk that Veridian is "the first company to tokenize its own shares under the new CIP-0113 standard we announced yesterday." He further said: "People have been talking about tokenized equity for years, and now there is an operating company that has achieved this on Cardano."

Book securities under the Swiss DLT Act: Legal attributes of Veridian shares

Tokens representing shares require holding rights to support them. In Switzerland, this right already exists with the introduction of registration-based uncertified securities. According to reports from crypto.news and industry service The Painters, Veridian's shares are "ledger-based securities" issued under the Swiss DLT Act. This means that the record in the register itself establishes legal status, not just a description of it.

This distinction is crucial. In tokenized shares that are common on trading platforms, you usually hold a claim against the issuer, who holds the real shares in custody somewhere. In register-based securities, the register entry is the certificate. If the platform fails, the entry will still exist. In contrast, several tokenized shares recently launched in Europe and the United States have adopted different structures.

However, this also brings certain limitations: Swiss law applies only in Switzerland. For residents of Germany, as long as no one provides and recognizes the certificate here, Swiss ledger securities will not create an enforceable claim in your securities account. And this has not yet happened.

CIP-0113 explains in detail: How issuers restrict transfers and freeze tokens

Programmable tokens are like a valve that can be operated by someone: CIP-0113 allows issuers to restrict transfers and freeze positions. CIP-113 is a Cardano programmable token standard developed by the Cardano Foundation and the community. "Programmable" means that issuers can attach rules to tokens, and these rules will be checked every time a transfer is made. These include identity checks and transfer restrictions, which determine who can receive unit tokens. According to CoinDesk and crypto.news, issuers can also freeze or confiscate positions if required by regulators.

This is a necessary condition for non-harassing securities. Any share register that allows anyone to transfer positions to others does not meet anti-money laundering requirements and does not comply with transfer restrictions in shareholder agreements. The same characteristics would be at risk in freely traded coins, so the next part of the distinction is worth examining.

We covered the standard itself on October 8, when it was launched on the main network: what is new since then is not the standard, but its first use on real securities.

ADA and ordinary native tokens are not affected by this standard

The obvious concern is: If issuers on Cardano can freeze tokens, can anyone freeze my ADA? The answer is no. According to crypto.news, the standard will be launched on the main network on October 7. For this reason, there is no need for a hard fork and it is clearly not applicable to ADA or ordinary native tokens. Control arises only when the issuer writes it at the time of issuance of its own tokens.

In practice, this means a significant split on the same chain. ADA remains as it is. At the same time, a type of token came into being, in which someone was controlling the valve. Anyone who purchases units on Cardano as a regulated securities issue in the future will subsequently gain this attribute. This is not hidden, it is present in the token and can be queried before purchasing.

One million shares without public offering: size assessment

These appointments are not decorative. A foundation with its CEO as chairman of the spin-off company's board and its chief legal officer on the board has not let the company out of control. According to crypto.news, Gregaard justified this step with the "independence of acting at the speed required by the market." The extent of this independent performance will be demonstrated in the financing rounds announced in 2027.

Tokenization in Zurich does not change your tax return: The same rules apply to the German ADA

ADA price on October 10: US$0.2546 in US$541 million transaction volume

Our query on October 10, 2026 showed that the ADA price was US$0.2546. The range for the day ranged from $0.2352 to $0.2590, and trading volume in the past 24 hours was $541.2 million, ranking 17th by market capitalisation. This price is well below the all-time high of $3.09 set on September 1, 2021. This assessment was compiled by cryptoticker.io on October 10, 2026.

This leads to two levels, both of which stem from today's transactions rather than models. Above is the intraday high of $0.2590; as long as prices fall below that level, this is only a day's gain, not a breakthrough. Below is the intraday low of $0.2352, at which point today's gains will be fully capitalized. The 7.3% increase made up for some of the week's weakness, and that's all: a 3.63% increase in seven days.

Anyone reading the situation on a web level rather than a chart level will find two themes this week. One is the ongoing vote on the minimum fee for node pools, which we reported earlier today: Cardano's vote for the 75 ADA minimum fee was 34%. The other is CIP-0113, which has gone from a standard text to a tool in use. Both changed the function of the chain, although it was not immediately apparent in price.

Tokenized shares in Germany: MiCA, custody and holding periods

There are no shortcuts from the Swiss structure to your portfolio. The alternatives you can check involve the ADA itself and the channels you buy, sell and hold.

On the purchase path, the provider's license determines everything. Since MiCA is fully applicable, trading venues and custodians within the EU require authorizations, and you can see what kind of authorizations they have; an overview is found in our comparison of regulated crypto exchanges. The obligations behind such authorizations are part of a survey we wrote about the licensing obligations of cryptocurrency company MiCA. Swiss ledger securities do not fall into this category, while European exchanges do.

When it comes to custody, the old question still exists: who holds the key. Programmable securities are stored in your wallet like any other token, and the issuer's control takes effect whether you hold it yourself or on your behalf by an exchange. For the ADA itself, these rights do not exist; there, the only thing that matters is who controls the private key.

When it comes to taxation, the news from Zurich does not change anything for you. In Germany, the proceeds from the sale of privately held cryptocurrencies are private disposal transactions; the proceeds after the holding period exceeds one year are exempt from tax and are counted as income until then. Any pledge has ongoing income to be recorded. For more information on which instruments carry the holding period for each purchase, see our overview of cryptocurrency tax tools and combination trackers.

Standards have been in use since the CIP-0113 report on October 8

On October 8, the functionality of CIP-0113 was discussed here and the open question of whether anyone would use it. The answer came two days later, and it came from the foundation that helped develop the standard. This is weaker than evidence of independent decisions by external issuers, but stronger than no evidence.

In terms of price, little has happened related to the deal since October 8. ADA fell about 8% on October 7, losing Leios 'lateral run after a rebound; today's 7.3% vs. 3.63% for the week. Anyone who deduces the impact of the spin-off from it is overstretching the data.

Our assessment: share registers on the chain, not trading venues

From a newsroom perspective, the deal means more to Cardano than to the ADA price for obvious reasons. The established fact is that the standard will be available on the main network since October 7 without a hard fork, and the first securities have been on it since October 8. It is also established that the security is not publicly traded and that the issuing foundation maintains close contact with the company through the chairman of the board and chief legal officer. The conclusion is that this is a technical proof of feasibility, not a market.

The contrast is the fact that the first user was the developer of the standard. Proof of demand will be irrelevant to the issuer. Until then, the right question is not how prices will change, but whether a second external security will be added in the coming months. This does not constitute a buy recommendation, and there is a possibility of full loss in any crypto position.

Roadmap to 2027: Strategic Investors and New Markets

Veridian plans to seek strategic partners and investors in 2027, according to The Paypers and crypto.news. Funds will flow to individual state agency operations in the United States, corporate operations in Europe and issuer networks in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, functionality will be built to verify task delegation from AI agents.

There is no date in this announcement that will force you to take action. Instead, announcements are a measure of commitment: if there is a round of external supporters coming in 2027, then the spin-off is not just an internal move.

Tokenized shares on Cardano: You cannot buy them

Clarify expectations.

Veridian shares are non-investable, have no public offering, and have no price. Anyone who wants to participate in this topic can only go through the ADA, and for the ADA, licensing of trading venues is crucial: our comparison of regulated crypto exchanges shows who is authorized in the EU.

Record the holding period.

If you add ADA during today's rise, a single one-year holding period for that unit will begin to be calculated. A tool that carries each batch separately can save you on rebuilding work in the spring; the option lies in the cryptocurrency tax tool.

View tokens before purchasing.

For new tokens on Cardano, it is worthwhile to check in the future whether they are issued under CIP-0113 and thus carry issuer control. The obligations faced by regulated issuers in the EU are described in our survey of MiCA licensing obligations.
