OKX cooperates with the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange to launch a tokenized securities platform
Dozens of U.S. stocks such as Nvidia and Tesla are expected to be traded around the clock on blockchain infrastructure soon. OKX and Intercontinental Exchange Group (ICE), parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), are advancing this new tokenized securities trading platform. OKXICE, a joint venture between the two parties, has notified the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission of its plans to operate under the agency's "Innovation Waiver" framework, which provides a regulatory path for eligible platforms to test tokenize U.S. listed securities.
Covers more than 60 hot U.S. stocks
The proposed trading venue covers more than 60 stocks, including Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, AMD, Palantir, Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle and JPMorgan. This development brings the emerging tokenized stock market closer to the large blue chips in the United States.
U.S. stocks can be traded with stablecoins
OKXICE plans to leverage the permitted liquidity pool on the OKX X Layer blockchain to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, rather than relying entirely on the infrastructure of traditional Wall Street trading hours. Tokenized securities can be traded using stablecoins such as USDC, USDG and USDT. The wallet addresses participating in the transaction must meet identity authentication, anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance requirements.
The plan aims to address a major limitation of traditional stock trading: the U.S. stock market still relies on an interconnected network of brokers, clearing systems, banking and clearing infrastructure that do not operate 24/7. Moving assets and settlement processes on-chain can help ease some of the constraints, allowing investors to trade related assets such as Nvidia or Tesla at night, on weekends or during closed markets on major U.S. exchanges.
SEC rules open doors to new markets
This project was made possible thanks to the SEC's recent five-year tokenization framework for eligible platforms. Under the structure, tokenized securities must retain the rights attached to the underlying shares, and the issuer has the right to receive notice and object before the issuer's shares are included.
This distinction is critical because some offshore products only provide synthetic exposure, rather than direct shareholder rights. Cerebras Systems has expressed opposition to joining OKXICE, a sign that companies themselves can influence whether their shares enter new markets.
In addition, this development is also in line with ICE's broader strategic deployment. NYSE is independently building a chain-based trading venue focusing on continuous trading, instant settlement and stablecoin funding support.
