Zcash launches a NU7 network upgrade on the test network, and the main network activation date is set for October 20.
Zcash has launched its NU7 network upgrade on the test network, an important step in implementing multiple protocol changes before the main network is scheduled to be officially deployed next month.
Key technological changes in NU7
At 18:21:45 UTC on October 4, Zcash test network dug out the 4,465,026th block and activated the NU7 protocol upgrade as scheduled. Zcash confirmed through its official X account that NU7 is now in use on TestNet.
The main goal of NU7 is to shorten the average out-of-block interval of the network from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Developers claim the adjustment is expected to increase transaction throughput and potentially improve overall network efficiency.
In addition, NU7 has introduced a "network sustainability mechanism" to reallocate some transaction fees to future block rewards. The change is intended to support the network's long-term funding needs and encourage continued development of the protocol.
Another important feature of NU7 is to disable version 4 transactions. The move means that unless users migrate funds before mainnet activation, ZECs stored in the older version of Sprout shield pool will not be able to be spent.
Testing Phase and Mainnetwork Decision Schedule
The Zcash Foundation recommends that test network operators deploy and release candidate versions in actual network environments, emphasizing the importance of conducting extensive and thorough testing in preparation for Mainnetwork integration.
The current testing period allows developers and stakeholders to assess the stability and effectiveness of proposed upgrades before moving forward. This process helps identify any unforeseen issues before launching on the main network.
Zcash developers plan to review the testnet experience on October 20 and make a final decision on mainnet activation, while setting the official activation level. If approved, the current target date for NU7 's mainnet activation is November 5.
Supports efficient market decision-making
In the rapidly changing cryptocurrency market, monitoring critical protocol changes is particularly important. Factors such as a Federal Reserve policy shift or the launch of new altcoins could significantly affect price movements within seconds. To avoid inefficiencies or missed opportunities in portfolio management by frequently switching between different apps to view charts, news and asset tracking, traders are starting to use tools such as CryptoApps. The service integrates real-time price charts, custom alerts, currency-specific news and macro market data in one interface without the need to register or create an account, providing a privacy-first solution to keep pace with network upgrades.
