Sui sets a new high throughput of 40.6 million transactions per second in real-time offline testing

Sui Network reported peak throughput of up to 40.6 million transactions per second (TPS) in a real-time offline test involving more than 10,000 channels, which significantly exceeded its record of approximately 6.1 million TPS set in July.

Details of the Basecamp demonstration event in Singapore

This test was conducted during the Sui Basecamp event held in Singapore, and the independently recorded offline channel transaction volume was 40,614,180 TPS. According to Sui official disclosure, these more than 10,000 channels support a variety of activity scenarios such as payment, games and chat. CertiK, the safety auditor, served as the independent auditor of this test, and a detailed review of the test data is still in progress.

The Sui Foundation said the October 7 demonstration was designed to test the infrastructure for rapid interaction between artificial intelligence (AI) agents. These transactions occur within programmable channels and are only settled to the Sui main network when the channel is closed. According to data released by the foundation, the results exceeded the target of 20 million TPS set for this event.

The demonstration was hosted by Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Mysten Labs. He pointed out that Sui's 40.6 million TPS score measures the ability to process off-chain activities.

Technical architecture: off-chain channels and main-network settlement

In the foundation's description of the presentation, the main categories of generated activities include payments, games and chat applications. Although more than 10,000 channels are open on the main network, interactions within the channels all take place offline.

According to Sui's design, a channel requires one on-chain transaction to open and another on-chain transaction to close. All activity between these two operations remains inside the channel, allowing participants to perform repetitive and high-frequency operations without having to submit each interaction separately to the blockchain. When the channel closes, participants jointly sign the final status, and this data can be independently verified on the chain. This design limits high-frequency activity to the channel, while the blockchain is only responsible for handling channel opening and final settlement.

For comparison, Sui used the same type of offline channel in previous July tests, reaching approximately 6.1 million TPS. The foundation points out that the channels were introduced during that demonstration and are programmable, allowing developers to create applications that go beyond simple transfers.

Focus on AI proxy payment infrastructure

In explaining the intended use, Abiodun positioned Sui as an infrastructure that serves "the millions of AI agents that conduct transactions every day." "There is no market in the world that requires 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million: humans are not that fast, but agents can," he said.

Sui's payment infrastructure also includes USDsui stablecoins. On March 4 this year, the Sui Foundation announced the launch of the native USDsui stablecoin, adding a dollar-linked asset to payments and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications on the Internet. According to the release report, Bridge (a subsidiary of Stripe) released USDsui through its Open Issue platform. The platform includes enterprise-level control and compliance functions, and multiple Sui wallets and fintech applications have integrated the token from the early stages of launch. The foundation pointed out that USDsui supports user-to-user payments, cross-border transfers and remittances within the Sui ecosystem. The release report also listed its uses for lending, transactions and liquidity provision in the DeFi platform.

In order to reflect the scale effect, the March report showed that the amount of stablecoin transfers on Sui in January 2026 exceeded US$111 billion. The data measures the value of transfers during the month, while the October announcement reported the number of interactions per second processed within offline channels.

For U.S. investors, February reports documented the listing of pledged ETFs linked to SUI. Canary Capital's SUIS is traded on Nasdaq, and Grayscale's GSUI is listed on NYSE Arca. According to a February 19 report, the two funds began trading on February 18 and directly hold SUI tokens. Canary's products pledge some or all of its positions, and the pledge reward is included in the fund's net asset value. Grayscale's products charge an annual sponsorship fee of 0.35% and pledge all positions when launched. Both products are described as spot funds that hold tokens rather than futures contracts.

In addition, Coinbase announced on July 22 that it will launch a SUI pledge service for customers. The minimum pledge amount is one token, and the expected annualized rate of return is 1.4% to 3.3%. Eligible customers can pledge through their exchange accounts, with specific availability depending on the region.

For this October throughput demonstration, Sui appointed CertiK as the independent auditor. The foundation said the security company will review certificates, execution logs, journals and supporting evidence and expects to release an audit report in the next few days.
