The U.S. spot Ethereum ETF was redeemed heavily last week, setting its worst performance since January.
Last week, the U.S. spot Ethereum (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded a net outflow of US$542 million, the worst performance since January this year; at the same time, Solana (SOL)-related funds ended the previous 14 consecutive weeks of net inflows.
Core Points
- The Ethereum ETF's net redemption this week reached US$542.1 million, and funds have been outflows for nine consecutive trading days.
- Solana-related funds lost US$24.8 million, the largest weekly net outflow since its launch in late October 2025.
- Bitcoin ETF lost US$681.1 million, and the total outflow of the three major categories of crypto asset ETFs reached approximately US$1.25 billion.
Ethereum ETF suffered a heavy setback
According to data released by SoValuedata on Saturday, the Ethereum Fund recorded a net redemption of US$542.1 million in the five trading days ended October 9. This was the category's worst weekly loss since the week of January 23, when an outflow of $611.2 million was made, and its second consecutive week of negative growth. This consecutive decline brought the cumulative outflow days to nine trading days, and the total outflow amount reached US$697.2 million.
BlackRock's ETHA, the largest Ethereum fund, suffered its largest weekly redemption this week since mid-December, losing $477 million, accounting for about 88% of total outflows across the category. The fund redeemed on all five trading days, with a single outflow of $201.9 million on Tuesday. In addition, investors withdrew $160.9 million from other Ethereum funds on Wednesday.
Solana-related funds also showed net outflows on five trading days throughout the week, with a total loss of US$24.8 million, which is about three times the previously recorded maximum outflow of US$8.9 million in a single week. Among them, the BSOL fund issued by Bitwise contributed US$20.9 million in outflows.
Spot Bitcoin (BTC) ETF lost US$681.1 million, ending a three-consecutive week inflow trend. So far, the total outflow of the three major categories of crypto asset ETFs has climbed to approximately US$1.25 billion.
Background of BlackRock's ETHA share split
Tuesday's redemption wave coincided with the day when ETHA implemented a 1 - 3 reverse share split and took effect. BlackRock did not disclose the specific reasons for the split in its filing. Eric Balchas, a senior ETF analyst at Bloomberg, said in August that the split aims to reduce transaction costs from about 7 basis points to about 2 basis points.
Solana ETF
