Factors behind the decision to close
In an announcement released on Tuesday, CoinEx, the cryptocurrency exchange currently ranked 33rd by daily trading volume, announced that it will permanently cease business after nine years of operating in the digital asset industry. The platform attributed the decision to sluggish market activity, reduced liquidity in various markets and rising compliance costs.
CoinEx CEO Haipo Yang said in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) that he acknowledged the platform had failed to achieve its ambition to become the industry's top player. He emphasized that managing security threats and responding to compliance requirements has become unsustainable for current operating models.
According to official announcements, CoinEx faces multiple challenges brought by the long-term downturn in the cryptocurrency market, which has led to a significant decline in trading volume and market liquidity across the industry. The financial burden of meeting regulatory standards in different jurisdictions ultimately exceeded what the exchange's business model could bear.
CoinEx面临的监管挑战并非新鲜事。2023年，CoinEx在与纽约州总检察长达成和解协议后撤出美国市场。根据该协议，交易所向受影响的纽约居民退还了约110万美元，并向州政府支付了超过60万美元的罚款。该和解协议还永久禁止CoinEx在纽约州开展业务。
CoinEx的关闭反映了交易所关停的行业普遍趋势。AscendEX于7月1日停止服务，原因是无法遵守欧盟《加密资产市场法规》（MiCA）以及关键流动性合作伙伴关系的破裂。BitMEX宣布将在9月23日终止运营，此前它已提供服务十多年。BitMart也在今年早些时候结束了其运营。
该交易所最初由加密货币矿池运营商ViaBTC于2017年12月作为项目启动。在宣布关闭时，CoinEx报告的24小时交易量约为5800万美元。
现有用户的时间表与流程
从周二开始，CoinEx立即暂停了新账户创建、推荐奖励计划和奖励分发。平台将所有期货头寸转换为仅平仓状态，防止开立新合约。法币交易、保证金交易、借贷计划、质押选项和自动化交易策略等服务不再接受新头寸。
自9月22日起，交易所将终止现货交易以外的所有服务，包括区块链存款。现货交易市场将于9月29日关闭，CoinEx智能链网络和OneSwap去中心化交易平台也将同步关闭。
最后的提款截止日期为2026年12月22日。CoinEx保证储备金比率保持在100%以上，确保平台上持有的所有客户余额得到全额担保。
如果任何USDT余额在12月截止日期后仍未领取，这些资金将转移到独立的第三方托管机构。该托管服务将根据记录余额收取相当于5%的月度管理费。用户将持续拥有提交提款请求的权利，直至2028年8月22日。
对于该平台原生代币的持有者，CoinEx宣布了一项无限量的CoinEx Token（CET）回购计划，固定价格为每单位0.005 USDT。这一回购率超过了周二约0.00466美元的市场价格，为持有者提供了略高于现货市场价值的溢价。
值得注意的是，CoinEx Wallet和CoinEx Vault产品不受交易所关闭的影响，并将作为独立服务保持正常运营。
