Following尼日利亚民众现可使用AI检测工具甄别网络虚假信息
随着2027年大选仅剩三个月，Google正式向公众开放其SynthID检测器。这一工具的推出，使得尼日利亚民众能够查验网络上流传的疑似由人工智能（AI）生成的图片、视频和音频片段。
该工具允许用户上传图像、视频或音频文件，以检查其中是否包含与Google及其合作伙伴生成的AI内容相关的隐形水印。鉴于尼日利亚即将步入2027年选举周期，这一技术的发展显得尤为关键。独立国家选举委员会（INEC）已将总统及国民议会选举定于2027年2月20日举行，随后于3月6日进行州长及州议会选举。
在选举期间，图像、视频和录音常被用于对候选人、政党或事件提出指控。同时，AI工具也使得制造逼真的合成媒体变得更加容易，普通网民往往难以将其与真实内容区分开来。
SynthID的工作原理
SynthID技术将隐形水印嵌入由AI生成的媒体文件中。这就像是一个隐藏的标签，当用户查看图片、观看视频或收听音频时，通常无法直接察觉，但兼容的技术设备可以检测到它。
Google says it has watermarked more than 180 billion pictures and videos and the equivalent of 240,000 years of audio content to date. Google first launched SynthID in 2023 and launched an early version of the detector to media professionals last year. Today, the company is making the detector available to the wider public.
Google pointed out that the detector can determine whether content was created using its AI system or systems from partners including OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, and Apple is expected to join the system. Although the announcement does not clearly state that users must have a specific account to use the detector, Google's accompanying instructions state that users can access it using an account from any of the three providers.
Limitations of Detectors
SynthID is not a universal AI Detection Tools. It is designed to identify compatible watermarks, which means content created by AI systems that do not use SynthID or compatible watermarks may not be detected. Therefore, if a file returns no SynthID results, it does not automatically prove that it was created by humans. Users still need to verify the original source, compare reports from credible media, and use other fact-checking methods.
Google said the SynthID detector adds authentication features already available in Search, Gemini apps and Chrome, which process more than 1 million requests per day.
For Nigeria users, this public tool provides another way to examine suspicious digital media. As the country approaches the 2027 election, the ability to distinguish between real material and synthetic content will become increasingly important.
